Do you think I did too much? or bent them too much and should let off a little bit? I was just having fun with it! I noticed some other ones that could be put into the light a bit more as well after I cleaned the leaves up! I felt like I was working with a bonsai tree, its really fun!
This is how she was looking right when I got home from work and right before I lst’d!
Dude you did a friggin fantastic job and she has waaaay more branching then I thought that’s awesome
Yea man whatever you can give the light is gonna be beneficial so if you see one you now know what to do
She’s really getting there now
Bend them 20% less than you think they can tolerate. Then every few days you can add a millimetre or two. Branches have got a lot of bend, but they’re also quite stiff, best to gently ease them where you want them, then as the plant grows the branches will solidify and hold their place
Oh good! I was worried that I went overboard! I really am liking the low stress training! I do happen to have a trellis net that I could put up, do you think I should do that so I can move some of the upper branches?
Ill take some more pictures of the foliage when I get home from work but the branching coming from the base of the fan leaves are massive!!
In regards to the trellis it depends have you decided if you’re going to top or not?
If you do top, expect an extra 3 to 4 weeks for recovery and full growth. The plus side is you’ll have 2 main tops and open up a canopy for better light penetration
It definitely shouldn’t be done now either way, get her on track first
I think I decided that I will top it! I know it will add extra time but Id like to see how much I can yield on my first grow! In the meantime I may germinate another auto and start her as well in the tent!
@Dinky
I have a bit before the seeds that I just ordered arrive, do you think I should try a different soil? I know that the Coast of Maine Stonington Blend is a good soil but seems to be quite hot as another user said. Is there anything you would recommend? Or should I just stay with the soil I have now?
Also, tomorrow’s feeding day! It’ll have been 4 days by tomorrow, so I’ll post before and after pictures as well as the runoff readings!
How big of a bag? Coast of Maine Stonington blend does not need added nutrients for quite some time depending on how many gallons of soil you plant in. I recommend using Coast of Maine Organic Plant Food and also Buds and Bloom in flower and when transitioning to flower. They are dry organic ammendments and Coast of Maine has a great fertilizer chart on amounts and a feeding schedule, check it out!! https://resources.coastofmaine.com/materials/Documents/Feeding-schedule-chart.pdf
Its really a preference thing dude and personally I think a grower should stick to one soil and learn how to use it. However, you’re still early in the game so you have room to experiment. I have no experience with COM soil but I know a lot of great growers here do. You only took a mis-step with it when the dyna grow got introduced too early.
The soil that I use is extremely hot, I only use it cos I like the texture of it, I start my seedlings in it straight from the bag, but once they leave their tiny solo cups I replace all the PPMs in the soil with my own. I’ve found relying on soil PPM is too inconsistent. Ill be doing a transplant on one of my youngins soon and will post the steps in my journal
Hot soil can be worked with if certain watering techniques are used but that’s for a different episode folks!
Feel free to ask the same question regarding using the soil on my journal cos one of those folks will for sure have used it and will offer their 2 cents happily.
Looking forward to the pics, your plants in such a fun stage of growth!
@IslandGrown76 has given some sound advice on using dry amendments to replenish the nutrients in your soil. But PLEASE dont do that on THIS grow because we have altered the soil so much.
Dry amendments can be an extremely simple and cost effective route. Something to consider for future grows
I have a 1.5 cubic ft bag of the COM soil and currently have it in a 3gal fabric pot! I do also have the Fish bone meal from them as well as the organic plant food! I haven’t used them yet as I don’t have a great understanding on the soil but that feeding chart helps a lot! I heard good things about the blend and its compliments but just lack the understanding about it to use it properly! I also didn’t realize that it was sold near me when I had ordered it from their site directly, now knowing I can get it quite easily instead of shipping it makes it better as well! Thank you again for the link to the feeding schedule! Would you recommend using dry amendments over other food like FF or dyna grow?
@Dinky
After reading the info that a previous grower gave about feeding with COM was very helpful, I am most likely just going to stick to the one soil! I would like to try to use the dry amendments in the future NOT on this grow because of what you said with how much we have altered the soil. I’ll have to look into if dry amendments are the better route with COM instead of using FF or dyna.
I will definitely be looking out on your journal for the transplant steps! I’m excited for the next episode where we learn about watering techniques too! For my next grow would you think I should try doing the multiple transplant route and see what I can do? Or should I take it slower and just germinate, then start in my 3 gallon?
I’ll be getting some pictures coming up in the next few hours when I go to feed! Should I do the same 800 ppm’d, 6.5ph water for this feed as well?
Yup we’ll maintain 800 and see if it goes up or down from the previous 1500 and see what the next steps are from there
As far as the multiple transplants, I do that because Im in a 3x3 trying to get every bit of size i can out of 1 plant. For you in the bigger area and probably running a few next grow I wouldnt bother and instead focus on watering habits.
I just finally was able to finish with my feeding, it took awhile because my cat decided to rip my chain apart which I was trying to fix for a few hours (unsuccessfully).
I also did notice a bit of a lean that seems to straighten back out on her main stem, anything I should be worried about in terms of main stem strength?
Loving all the new growth bud you must be very happy.
The stem bend if its new could be related to her being thirsty, it could be there’s more tension on one side you tied compared to the other side producing a slight lean. I wouldn’t be too concerned right now, but anything new should always be jotted in the journal and monitored.
Silica is something you can add that helps strengthen the plants inner cell walls making it more firm and stiff. As of right now I wouldnt say its urgent.
The feed numbers are great the fact they’re going down says we can maintain the 800 for one or maybe two more feeds.
As far as the drooping, do you think the pot was super light before feed?
Right now she’s practically spitting new branches out, so i think the right move is to shave another little time off between feeds. She’s probably on a massive uptake phase.
@Dinky
I am definitely happy about the new growth!! All of the smaller leaves and top growth look very happy besides right before I watered when she was looking a little sad.
I think there is a slight difference in tension with how the plant ties are. The pot was very light when I went to water so I would think to shave some time off as well! Would you say about a day?
Im super excited for the topping! And then to get the next auto going as well!!
