Jack's 3-2-1 with Pro Mix HP

I’ve seen a lot of advice to feed Jack’s at full strength once the seedlings show their first true leaves.

They are a bit farther along than in this picture now, they are 6 days old. (Sprouted on the 19th.)
I had been feeding them .8EC Jack’s in the rockwool but noticed the pH in my mister bottle drifted up to 6.5 and maybe caused some slight yellowing. So I ran 1.2 EC and 5.8 pH drench through the rockwool cubes today. Run off from the cubes was about the same as input. Hoping it fixes some of the yellowing.

Initially my ppfd’s were too low so two of the extra leggy Grannh Candies got transplanted to a solo cup of Pro Mix HP. I fed them today 1.2 EC Jack’s at 5.8 pH until they ran off. Run off was about the same as input.

Am I doing too much? Some say they don’t feed seedlings at all for a while, and some say they start Jack’s full throttle after the true leaves show. I’ll continue to update this thread as time goes on.

The grow is 3 Ethos’ Big Detroit Energy and 3 Granny Candy from HSC.

You have to feed in Promix, you are fine starting lower and working up, I do exactly that. I’ve always believed it’s much easier to add some than take it out! Deficiencies just need to up the EC to correct, toxicity requires flushing or other corrective actions.

Welcome to the forum! Good eyes in here to get you straightened out. Happy growing :call_me_hand:t2:

Thanks for the welcome! I’ve been here before but been a little while…
Glad to have a place to discuss growing again

Do you think the values i listed are reasonable for the stage of growth they’re at, or would you start even lower? Was it a good idea to run the feed through the cubes and ProMix until 20% runoff?

At their size, I would be feeding them about .6 EC, once they get good roots I would water to runoff. I don’t water to runoff until roots come out bottom of solo cup. As they grow, increase EC by .2 per week until you get to around 1.8 EC.

Once they get big enough to water to runoff, 20% is what you want.

One thing I noticed having fed til run off now in the solo cup - the E.C. was running out at 2.8 from the few mistings of .8 ec i had given it. Because promix hp is mostly inert and marketed as a hydroponic medium I thought maybe it was already building up salt? Think I’m probably over complicating things. I’ll update with pictures tomorrow for more info.

If your runoff is 2.8 , I would back way off the EC, they’re not big enough to flush but that’s way too high. I usually grow in Promix and I don’t want EC to get over 1.8 to 1.9 most strains, even in flower.

One thing, you don’t need to feed until they get their first set of true leaves from seed, the colys will feed them until then. If you see polys fade or yellow, they need feeding.

I ran my 1.2 ec feed through the solo cups and rockwool, but initial reading was yes 2.8 ec out the solo cups just from a few mistings of .8ec Jack’s prior to this “flush”. I ran the 1.2 to bring rhe salt content down but still seems like double what you recommend, .6 ec, for this stage. There was some slight yellowing and lime green color to the true leaves (all have developed them now) so not sure. The rockwool was soaked in an initial .3 ec solution of Jack’s as well.

Misting the domes should be done with RO or distilled water.

I was misting the rockwool as it dried out but I hear you.

Gotcha my bad. Not a rockwool user here. Sorry growmie

I said I would update so here I am. Maybe I can make this thread my grow journal? Or should I put it in a different section? Here’s a shot for shot of all my seedlings so far.

Granny Candy #2 (the leggiest that got potted into a solo)

Granny #3, the worst offender as far as foliage symptoms.

Granny #1, which has exhibited this interesting tri-leaf pattern since sprouting its cotyledons. Curious to see how it develops and whether or not the extra foliage helps or hinders its devlopment.

Big Detroit Energy in order #1, #2 & #3. All looking leggy and roots coming out of the cubes. They will go into solo’s of promix HP today.

Conditions in the dome 78*F and 65%-70%rH today. Been having the rH taper down from 80%-75%-65% over the last week. They’re 7 days old from popping out of the rockwool today.

Here is them transplanted into their ProMix solo’s today

@Truetopath I saw you grow with Jack’s brother. Any advice?

Update @Growdoc @Borderryan22 @Truetopath

Here is them today a little over 24 hours after transplant into promix. The “flushing” seems to have helped, the new growth is sporting a healthier shade of green but is a little yellow at the tips. Maybe they can handle full or 3/4 strength? They look hungry to me possibly.

Hey man! Jacks is super user friendly and hard to goof up. A lot of people will do 3.6 part A, 2.4 part B, and 1.1 Epsom per gallon. I decided to go by the bag this time and my plant has been thrilled. I also add 3mL silica blast per gallon. I had a bag of their bloom that on the schedule they say run for a week during flip so I figured why not? Usually I’ll run just regular Jacks all the way through. :call_me_hand:t2:

I’m not familiar with promix but watch that new growth and make sure it stays green lighter at first until the chlorophyll kicks in.

Promix HP is a soil-less medium. Basically 70% peat and 30% perlite for aeration. So no nutrients provided from the medium at all. The stage they are at now, and judging from pictures, you would go with full strength part A, B, and epsom? Seedling stage has been difficult to me, I usually grow from clone. Thanks for the reply grow bro
