Jack 321 direction

No not the order but the combo of them is the issue. If fully desolved separately then mixed there is no reactions. Just if mixed in there powdered form than put in the water together That’s how I understand it.

@Bulldognuts, that is an interesting comment. i signed on this am to ask about that specifically, (but always get caught up in reading all the other threads.

So, yesterday, i put 3 gallons of tap water into my [clean] 5 gal mixing bucket. i take the last gallon to the kitchen with me to being my mad scientist mix session (my wife loves that i use the kitchen for this). I know that probably 98.5% of people just mix the jack in cold water, but i assume they are mixing larger batches? i notice that when i was mixing by the gallon, i could always see a little Jacks on the bottom that didnt seem to disolve, so i like mixing into warm water.

i put a small pot on the stove, add a quart or so of the 4th gal of water and warm it (not hot, not boiling). I Add enough Part A for all 4 gallons. when its completely mixed, i add that to the other 3 gallons of water in the mix bucket. i pour another quart from the 4th gal and repeat with the Epsom Salt. when mixed add that to the mix bucket. Finally repeat with Part B.

Everything LOOKS great at this point. then i toss my airstone into the 5 gal bucket and let it bubble the rest of the day (since this was straight municipal tap water).

Next day, the water is CLEAR, but there is a teeny thin layer of “silt” on the bottom. i check the mix and it is usually right at 7.3 pH, 1.9 EC. when i add a little pH down, it seems to initiate some kind of reaction as you can see the “silt” remixing with the water (even before i stir). once it is at 6.7, i pour it into 1 gal jugs. it NEVER settles out once in the jugs and i have checked “leftover” jugs at the end of the week and pH is stable.

any of this seem normal? odd? weirder than scieince? is it something i am doing that might be causing this?

Magnesium sulphate and cal nitrate can bond together to create calcium sulphate which is non soluble. So if you’re seeing chunks of white stuff, there has been a reaction.

It does take an inordinate amount of time to desolve each ingredient. But I just force myself to wait and stir and wait untill desolved.

I throw part A and epsom together the morning of feed day and then add in part B in the afternoon. The epsom is what takes a while but you can speed it up by heating some water in the stove and throw your epsom in that. It dissolves way faster in hot water.

I thought of doing that as well but figured the wait for the water temp to drop back to air temp ate up the time savings. Kinda damned if you do and damned if you dont. LOL.

It doesn’t have to be much. Just take the gallon you’re using and pour a couple cups into a pot. You don’t want to heat it to a boil or anything. Just to like 90-100*. When you pour it back into your gallon it shouldn’t change the temp much.

I’ll give it a try. Have to feed tomorrow, declorinating the water right now. Makes sense.i make up 3 gal at a time and feed about 2 1/2 gals

I’ve been taking RO water and sitting in tent, which helps to keep warmer. I may start using some warm water similar to what you are doing. :+1:

@Not2SureYet what would hold me over for 2-3 grows? 4-6 plants :potted_plant: each grow… 4ibs of part A and 4ib of part B ? I been looking at Amazon or do you got a Recommended place to buy? B.t.w thank your for Feet schedule. How should it be mixed part a salt and then part B?

I found spotty results trying to purchase on amazon (cant find both part A and part B in reasonable size bags). i have had HORRIBLE results on EBAY (people re-bagging product, but advertising as new, no way to even tell if it was authentic Jacks’s). I finally went directly to their website (duh) and ordered 2 LB bags from them. Remember the company name is J R Peters (not Jack’s). they even have links there where they will test your water and provide recommendations.

As far as mixing, its Part A, then Epsom Salt, then Part B. you can purchase ES from them or buy [more economically] on Amazon or elsewhere.

As far as how long it will last, My current grow is only 2 plants. on average i water approx every 3 days now (in veg). I was watering every other day when i hit flower on my last grow, but results WILL vary by plant size, temp, etc. I feed each plant 1 gallon at each watering (for now) and that seems to be ok. so with that math using approx 6 gal of water/week (again, for 2 plants).

Since you typically feed Jack’s on every watering (with small break during transition), you may be able to figure out based on your own watering schedule.

I mix in 5 gallon batches (just cause its easier) so i am using 18g Part A and 12g Part B per 4 gallons. At that rate, I should get over 50 batches (275 gallons) out of my 1kg bag of Part A. (i think that is approx 10 month supply for me? not enough coffee yet this am, but you have my interest, so i will add this to my spreadsheet

Either way, the 50# bags seemed like total overkill for me at this point (maybe once i am retired

hope that is helpful

I bought the 25 lb bags of a and b and picked up 5 lb bag of Epsom locally. Iys going to last a while but since I’m going to pump it through my garden irrigation once a week I’m going to order another 25 of a and b. I absolutely love this stuff

I bought from amazon I believe. At the time. It was the same price and faster shipping. I got the 25lb bags too. I want to say I use about 2lbs per grow or a little less. And that is normally for 8 plants on average. I think @dbrn32 got my epsom salt from Sams? He sent me 2 bags  :+1: I have sent 2lb kits to friends to try and still have a few more years worth. I store mine in 5 gallon buckets as to the bags. Less mess and easy to move around

That’s correct.

I grow 2 in veg and 2 in flower at a time. I’m on plants 9,10,11 and 12 with Jack’s now and still have a little over a half a bag of the 2.2lb bags.
