I have read around here and see jack 321 brought up a lot. Is this the recommended system?
I’m currently using Humboldts Secret Set of A & B from amazon.
When I look up jacks 321 I see several options.
Should I be looking for:
5-12-26 Part A? I do not see a part B on their website. From photo’s I can find it looks like part b is nitrogen and calcium. Would the 10-30-20 bloom be sufficient or do I only need part A?
Right now they generally start out great all the way up until they hit flower. Once they hit flower though I think something is out of whack with what I currently use. I check the PPM and it’s fine, the PH is fine. The leaves start turning yellow and dying and the growth becomes stunted. Usually the plant finishes okay, just with what I would consider reduced quality/yield.
Just trying to figure out what I need and stop wasting money on every " fix all" product I run across. What do you guys suggest would be easiest to handle for a newer grower?
Jacks nutrients will be by far the easiest. It’s the same recipe from start to finish.
I use the 3-2-1 formula
Part A is the Jack’s Hydroponics (5-12-26)
Part B is the Calcium Nitrate bag (15-0-0)
And any bag of Epsom salt works for the third part.
Per gallon mixture is
3.6g of Part A
2.4g of Part B
1.5g of Epsom salt
You have to mix them in order.
Bucket of water and put in the part A and the Epsom salt then stir until completely dissolved.
Once that’s completely dissolved you add in the Part B, stir until dissolved…then ph according to you medium/non medium.
I would think so, especially if they have good seller ratings. I’ve seen a few sellers on ebay that are buying bulk from Peters and then repackaging it. Just stay clear of those that are packaged in ziplocks. Nutrients can diminish and become oxidized over time if not packaged correctly.
Fresher is always better, but Jacks is stable and can be mixed up a few days ahead of time. For your DWC grow, ensure the mixed solution stays below 70°f at all times
@Bubblegumfreak
It’s a personal preference approach. Some people do, some people don’t.
My recommendation is to feed every time until they’re chopped.
Novice growers sometimes cut off nutrients before the flowers are ready, causing issues into finishing.
Thanks. Honestly I am going to do both Hydro and soil, just trying to get a feel for what works best for me in terms of medium.
I went ahead and purchased the 25LB bag of jacks A/B from their website for $180 delivered, instead of the $90 for like 5 lbs of the stuff other places. Picked up the Epsom salt from amazon so I should be good to go. Should be enough for 3,500+ gallons following your mixture, which is much cheaper than anything else I’ve had.
I will follow your advice/mixture and see how they go. I appreciate it!
Depending on the soil, soil will have some nutrients, and will support the plant up to 3-6 weeks in veg depending on your lighting.
Start feeding when you see signs of the plant looking hungry.
Anytime! Happy to help, need anything else I’m a tag away. Happy growing!
The close up views look ready, what does the overall plant look like?
I see some amber, and mostly mature trichomes and very little clear.
The best example of maturity is located on the calyx, not the sugar leaves. One picture might be a sugar leaf, that one has a lot of amber.
As for this one, I really butchered it. It’s a “green crack” photo. I had some autos going when I started her and I ended up flipping it rather late. Never thought she’d made it.
Flip side, it tried to grow MUCH taller than I had room for. I mean, right now it’s over 6 foot tall inside.
I very poorly tried my hands at those little training clips that bend the stems to try and help with that, but I think again I was far too late and many of them ended up at a very odd angle. I ended up using plant wire attached to the ceiling to hold many of them.
Honestly, I thought this one was going to be trashed, but I went with it anyway. It’s a mess, but seems to be doing fine with all my learning mistakes with it. Overall I gotta say this isn’t my best work, haha. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s probably going to be my highest yielding plant yet though.
