Is this ok? (Watering situation)

Hey everyone, I’ve got 4 seedlings going in coco right now and I have them sitting in a plastic crate on top of a bucket. It seems really easy what with the watering frequency to just keep the bucket under them until it gets full before emptying it. I was also hoping it would add some humidity as it’s winter and hasn’t rained much. (I know, it’s indoors). Do you think it will be an issue to leave the water since they aren’t actually sitting in it?

The water in the bucket will not be an issue.

What is the plan for your grow? They will not get far in a solo cup without mad skills in solo cup challenges

Thanks for the response. This is my first time in coco and I was hoping to transplant them into 5 gallon buckets with drainage after a while

Let them get a little bigger before transplanting. You don’t need to feed them to runoff at this point. Maybe 15-20ml around the edge of the cup. You can also take clear solo cups, spray a little water on the inside, and place them over the babies. These will act as humidity domes.

Wow I’ve been soaking them everyday. I’ll cut back

Let the leaves get a bit wider than the cup rim before you transplant, they need a good root system. Most growers use a smaller pot than 5 gallons, frequent fertigation does require a big pot. Next time, you can use clear solos to plant in and you can see the roots filling in…….

Ok, I have some 3 gallon fabric pots I can put them in. Clear cups, wish I had thought of that, thank you.

Above post should have said does NOT require a big pot. Lots of coco guys use 3 gallon, I haven’t decided on 1,2, or 3 gallons. Prolly 3s ….

I’m thinking I might just use the 3 gallons and go for smaller plants. I’m using a 1000watt 4’x4’ light and I’m also trying to sprout 4 more seeds (auto flowers) in addition to the pictured plants (photos) to try bonsai. Although I’m sure those won’t get very big I want to make sure everyone gets their fair share of light.

You won’t have room for more than four in a 4x4 tent. 3 gallon pots with coco will grow them plenty big to fill your tent. Is your light true 1000 watts or equivalent rated?

Very true @Growdoc . Coco in anything bigger than a 5 gallon is going to take a ton of feeding, probably upwards of 10 gallons a day in full flower. I rarely use bigger than 2 gallons for coco. 1 gallons can become a little tough to keep fed unless you decide to use a self watering or automatic drip system. I have a 1 gallon auto, in coco, on a self watering base, and she is drinking up nearly a gallon a day.
