Is my flower dying all of the sudden? Nutrient lockup or heat stress?

Yes, I am also downgrading PH with an apple vinegar. Aprox 50ml for 11 liters will drop from 7.4 to 6.0.

So, here a recap of my flower.
. it is still a bit yellow-ish but it holds tight and leaves stopped dying - there was plenty of dead leaves for sure but on one point I really got feeling that this is due heatwave and a a natural yellowing.

I have now two other questions.

  1. since this is my first finale, I can’t really determine in which week the flowering phase is. Per my calcuations it should be week 4 but I don’t know… the growth now is extremely slow.
  2. when watering the plant in this final phase, how ofter does one need to use additional nutrients? Every day, every other day or…? Considering the final two weeks for flushing.
. And to really understand the final flushing… there is no need for extra watering, correct? Just to use normal, nutrients free water during normal watering?

All in all… I expected it to be much bigger and I can’t really determine where and when did I make mistakes.
Cheers!

So first off, for a first grow, you are actually looking really good. A couple of things I can see that will help some this time and next are:
1)Next grow use a large tan fabric grow bag (minimum of 5 gallons). The size of your container directly relates to the size of your plant. You want some monsters, get some 10-20 gallon bags. You’ll need a 10 foot ladder to tend them. So think about that.
2) From the pics this time I get a better feel for your yellowing. With that type on the inside around the middle and bottom, my guess is nute lock. Given your container size versus your plant size, I guessing it is root bound and possibly overfed. Because you are this far along in flowering, I wouldn’t try and transplant to a larger container. Your plant will have naturally stopped growing at this point and be focused on making buds. So while it won’t get any bigger, it will get a lot fatter. So the yellowing, first your soil pH target for flowering is 6.8. What feed are you using, how much and how often? That’s a fairly small pot and either overfeeding, underfeeding and pH issues can all cause her to pull nutes from the leaves. If you get the soil pH at 6.8 and the yellowing stops there are nutes in the soil she just wasn’t able to absorb them. If it continues, she’s hungry. I have found most commercial fertilizers tend to over do it and about 1/2 as much is all you need. Otherwise you get nute lock and spend a bunch of money buying more nutes thinking you’re fixing the problem, when you already had too much.
3) For flowering I understand your confusion. I’m slightly still confused myself and perhaps one of the true guru’s on here can clarify it for us. When I first saw pre-flower pistils I started counting. After 2 weeks pre-flowering, I still did not see what I would call buttons. We had a lot of heat those weeks and I figured it just slowed her down. By the next week I saw buttons. I then began counting flowering weeks. So if there is a hard fast rule that pre-flowering is never longer than 2 weeks, then I am a week ahead of where I think. I feel like the pictures of my plant match with pictures of flowering weeks based on my dating, but I’m terrible with size and depth perception. So I’m as curious as you now and see what I can find out.
4) Flushing, yes the last two weeks are water only. Water as normal. Some people don’t water the last 3 days.

So you’re looking better than you think. You’re not far off and with a bigger fabric bag next time you’re going to be rocking. In the meantime, get that soil to 6.8 and let’s see if she’s hungry or got plenty. :sunglasses::+1:t2: Let me know what nutes you’ve been using and how frequently.

Thanks a lot

I am using these:
Monopotassium phosphate 65%
Calcium bi-carbonate 25%
Magnesium sulphate 10%

It comes in tablets. 1 tablet per aprox 2 gallons of water.
I use 1 tablet per 2,9 gallons and than water it for two days in a row or so, than skip for few days and I repeat. I don’t have a clue if this is ok or if I am overfeeding it.

I did buy a fabric pot, thanks for this. Will use it next round!

My suspicion is that the soil I used - although super fine and something… may not be suitable. Like I wrote earlier, I cannot flush out the PH out of it. So I simply continue with the water with around 6.2. I hope it will do.

You are gonna be totally fine. She’s looking great for a first grow in that container. You’re gonna be cranking out 10 foots in another couple grows. :sunglasses: For pH shoot for 6.8 in the soil, but don’t freak about it anything between 6 -7 will suffice for now. I water when she feels light. After paying attention to the weight for a while you will never question when to water again. You’ll know by feel. I would definitely do the water no feed and watch those leaves. If no change in leaves, water only until it starts again. Then you know it’s time to feed. I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when she’s done at how well your first grow went. Hang in there! :sunglasses::metal:t2:

So I went back and grabbed pics of mine right at the end of pre-flowering and right at the beginning of flowering. It looks to me like my time line is correct. So if you can recall when yours started looking like the last pic. That’s when you started flowering. A week later would be 1 week flowering. Hope this helps. :sunglasses:

Still Pre-flowering

Begins Flowering

Great info! Thanks a lot. I think I am right on track. Will use other methods as well to try to determine the correct timeline

Hello, hello.

I thought it is time to update my flower. The discussions’s topic is not really relevant anymore, or is it? I think I went past the horror of my flower dying although the yellowish-ing still continues. I believe (by what I have read and observing it) this is now the natural stage of leaves simply dying.

I will post the pictures in the end and my question here is simple, yet asked thousands of time before. When to harvest and HOW to harvest - haven’t found and good article about that to be honest.

Per my calculations, she’s now in the middle of week 6, few days to turn in to week 7.
Being this White Widow it is said that flowering time for this strain is 8-10 weeks. How would you guys comment on this and considering the pictures of it?

Some pictures were taken by iPhone’s builtin Macro mode (which is quite awesome if I may add) and some were taken by cheap smartphone’s micro lens. Not the best there is but maybe enough for an expert here?

Also to note: about my past PH issues: I bought a PH meter for soil. Super simple to use.
I was able to drop PH of the soil to 6.8 but today’s reading is again 7.0 or just a bit below 7.0.
Anyway, I don’t believe PH is an issue anymore.

Thanks for all the replies. I really do appreciate your time. :upside_down_face:

Plant looks great. I’m no grow master and others may have a different opinion, but yeah, the yellowing you have now is nothing to worry about. It appears to just be a nitrogen deficiency which it doesn’t need much of anymore and will pull from the fan leaves. Looks to me like you’re closer to the 10 week mark with about 3 to go. If you can get a hold of a jewelers loop they are great for checking trichs. Which to the best I can tell is the preferred method of determining ripeness. Here’s a couple of graphics that may help. Stay growing! :sunglasses::+1:t2:
