I harvested beautiful plants on 12/27. They had been drying under optimal conditions in my tent until the morning of 1/3 when my power went out here in Virginia because of the epic snowstorm/power outages which kills my ability to manipulate their environment. The temp/humidity stayed around 55/55 until last night which it dropped to 46/55. The buds are kinda “crispy” to the touch but are squishy if that makes sense. Branches are still not “snapping” which would indicate they are fully dry.
Question: is this ruining my dry and crop. Should I just yoke them now and trim them?

Dry on the outside, squishy on the inside, you should be ok to continue drying process. Seems a little cold to worry about mold. If they still have some “squish”, then they have moisture they still need to release.

Had the same issue last grow and over dryed my GDP. If it were me, I’d trim and package them as normal…except I’d throw a fan leaf in the jar/container if the RH inside the container is too low. I didn’t have leaves and just left the GDP alone, smoke fine, just dryer than usual. If the buds are too wet and spikes the RH once in the container, throw them in a paper bag for 24 hours and retest RH. Just what I’d do if this helps any.
Alright, I think we may get power today or tommorow so then I will be able to control things again.
What are signs my buds are fully dry?
This is my first grow and I kinda nailed it so far, don’t want to muck it up

Stems are a big determining factor Do the stems just bend with no snap, crackle or pop? Then not ready. If they break without having to really pull them apart then they should be ready to bag or put in jars. If you have mini hygrometers, you can put them in your curing vessel to make sure the rh stay between 58-62%. That’s ideal for curing.

If you wanna get a little more precise, you can get a wood moisture meter on Amazon and stick the prongs in the buds. 10-12% there is what you’d look for. I hope you get your power back. You can always throw a couple damp towels in the dry area. This will bring humidity up a little since your temps are so low right now. And once it is back on, just adjust everything close to 55-60°F, and 55-60% rh

The boveda packs? They are more for maintaining moisture, not really adjusting it. They will help adjust if you’re off by a couple numbers, but too much or too little moisture they won’t do much. I use Grove bags to cure. They “breath” and maintain 58-62% rh and also have some other neat features

That is where a generator comes in handy, not just for snow storms and hurricanes lol. I have not started my grow yet so learning a lot from the experienced folks here, but I know cigar curing and aging and this is similar you should be fine once power comes back and RH is stable.

I use Grove bags as well, make sure you heat seal for long term storage. I smoke alot so it’s not an issue in my house lol.

’s, but no problem. You can get like a 12 pack of the mini hygrometers for super cheap on Amazon. And go to the Grove bag website. You have to look around a little to buy individual bags, most of the stuff is shown in like 100 packs for large scale operations. But you can get 1 gram, up to 1 pound bags. Good luck!!

Yep. I only suggest the actual website because Amazon is sometimes sketchy. But Amazon has overnight delivery. I think it took 10 days for me to get the Grove bags in the mail from the site.
I actually got my Grove bags in like 4 days after the order was placed with the maker.
I got the quarter pounders! It was a nice compromise between the smaller ones and the pound size.
i don’t know what kind of voodoo they use but these bags are the shit!! So much easier than jars any day of the week!
I think I paid like $50 for 20 or 25 QP bags. As long as they don’t rip or anything they’re safe to re-use also.
I don’t heat seal either - I got a big ole Mr. Mackey head to fill, but I do store them in a box in a nice, cool, dark closet.

They really are!!! They have the strain specific design bags that are cool looking too, but I think they dry out the buds a little too much . The black ones are amazing though. Outta BTW cracking up at Mr. Mackey

I would recommend the grove bags, and getting the little hydrometers to put in there to check. I’m a newbie only I grow under belt but I experimented with using just mason jars, and grove bags. What I put in grove bags came out with a better taste and a little smoother then my jars. Bags are pretty cheap compared to everything else lol, best of luck
