Hi bros, just wanted to ask any of you out there growing a few different strains in the same tent/room if theirs any tips you may have, or anything I should be aware of?
Also just a place to post some pictures, show your plants at whatever stage and let people compliment you no doubt or give you pointers - peace.
Also… anyone had a hydro/ DWC grow with a few soil pots around the bubbler buckets before? any huge NONO’s to doing this?
I am. Just watch them all and they will tell you what they want and need.
I started with soil, and grew 4 different strains immediately. I was such a noob tho, and had issues with most of those strains just because I wasn’t very informed on how to grow quality plants.
When growing multiple strains, you’ll have to remember that they might not all like the same amount of nutrients, so you’ll need to be careful and feed each one separately, then evaluate the growth after, and either add more nutes or go with less for the next feeding. It’s really all just a learning process.
Then, I went to hydro, 5 gallon DWC buckets to be exact. I still had a few soil plants going, but started a DWC bucket to see if I liked hydro more. I did in fact like hydro more, so now I have like 8 DWC buckets lol!
The only tips I would give you are if you’re going to grow hydroponically and in soil that you should have the soil plants raised, because the plants in a DWC bucket will already be taller because of the buckets they grow in.
Also, the major thing for growing soil and hydro in the same tent, is growth. DWC plants grow faster, so you’ll need to keep the soil plants level with the canopy of the hydro plants.
Lastly, you’ll need to buy some extra nutrient additives for hydro growing, and may even need to buy new nutrient base mixtures. Just double check with the nutrients you’re using for soil and make sure they’re compatible for hydro as well. If not, you’ll need to buy hydro nutrients.
Awesome info - one problem is i have 2 x skunk 1 x choc haze and 7 SQ - and they are all going in the hydro system haha
I have a very similar system, 10 x 21L (4.2gallon) give or take, and it recirculates to! also has a flaming dripper system for the top… its like a wilma, dwc, recirclating monster man, and has 9inch ait’s - plus airstones and 2 pumps
Haven’t actually set it up yet… but will do when the other bucket arrives tomorrow - these people sent me a missing part, then i get the part resent - super excited to get it up! lay the buckets out… and one had no holes in it haha dopey bastards.
Anyway thanks very much for your advice sir
I may get another tent to be honest, i seem to have overdone the lighting for this one alone
You’ll love hydro once you get it dialed in and get it figured out. My 2 dwc are growin like crazy
Oh no, RDWC? With different strains? You’re probably going to run into some problems, so I would recommend just growing those 7 SQ seeds in that system. That way, they’ll be way more similar than having a bunch of strains together. Roots tend to grow together in those systems, so once they’re in and growing it’s hard to take out or transplant.
But that’s just my thoughts! @dume might have some advice for you though, he runs RDWC but he uses aquaponics.
But yes having different strains all linked together could cause problems like treez said. Remember each plant is different and each strsin will need their own little tweaks here and there. Also with a RDWC one issue for one plant could turn an issue for every plant. Just some food for thought
Nailed it @Hawkeye_diesel
hey mcLovin…it might be simpler for this grow for you to take the air pump and start 2-3 DWC buckets, separate reservoirs to make changes and track things.
get comfortable ph’ing the reservoirs, tracking nutrient usage with a ppmometer, water temp vs air temp…
I am currently not working you see, so i have so much time on my hands… so i am doing the fast track and going for all 10 @kabongster - thanks tho.
@Hawkeye_diesel and @ktreez420 … i sort of had a funny feeling you would say this -_- annoying - but i am very glad you did, probably saved me a Fudge tone of trouble in the long run.
I can transplant the 3 best out of these, and add that to the 7 SQ - we have 10 of the same strain, snorted.
Then 2 and a 1 of soil babies, which can be monitored and sorted individually.
Thanks for the advice - much appreciated as always.
as for plants being different…I grow two at a time, from seed, the same variety…the few grows I have had there has always been a faster growing taller one and by the end of vegging they are on different watering/feeding schedules.
Whatcha feeding them?
Currently nothing, i really need to get some feed for the hydro system! How big should i let them get before feeding? Currently have…
Great white rooting powder (which i mix in a spray bottle and uhse for everything from germ to flower) hopeful thinking that i get that far.
Also have some big bloom tiger bloom and grow big for the 3 soil.
Vitalink cal mag
What would you advise getting?
You can either wait to feed till they have a well established root system around 5 to 6 nodes or after the first round little leaves yellow and fall away, but I would take start giving them nutrients a until they are in the hydro system and have gotten used to it, if that makes sense.
You’ll need nutrients that are designed for hydro systems. Some may not be all water solvable and could clog up your stones and leave sediment in the bottom of the buckets.
yeah I hear you, just not sure what nutes I actually need! I never really got my head around it… what sort of “feed” or whatever do you use in your dwc?
I use Fox farms trio, but it is the hydro formula. I also plan to use it with the soil plants when it comes down to feeding them
The main thing about different strains is their origin strain. Is it indica, sativa, Ruderalis, or dominant hybrid in the same categories.
I have not grown the autos with Ruderalis but I Grow sativa and indica dominant strains together all the time. Sativa grows taller and more open than indica which is fatter and bulkier fan leaves. Sativa I have grown likes the outer edges of the Grow while the indicas like the more directly under the light area. This works perfectly for an hid grow when I put the WW in the center and Jack Herrer in the corners.
I run General Hydroponics Flora Trio, for my DWC buckets. Used Fox Farms before for both soil and hydro and it worked great too.
