Inducing pollen/seed growth from revegg clones

So I learned that you wouldn’t want to re-vegg a mother plant more than once because quality of herb begins to degrade. But I couldn’t find any info regarding inducing seed growth of a re-vegged mother or it’s would be clones.

I would like to try re-vegging a particular strain I really like, Day Stripper, so that I may collect it’s feminized seeds whether it be by spraying the mother plant with the appropriate chemicals or the mother’s clones with the chemicals.

So, in my case, would the quality of seeds be lower as a result?

Seeds could be quality and viable but the plant is a different story. Breeding for seeds comes down to what you’re looking, if you’re just looking for some feminized seeds then go for it. The outcome may be surprising or disappointing if you’re expecting the plants from the seeds to resemble the mother plant or even the buzz effects, smell and taste can be greatly different. Breading to look for some specific pheno characteristics takes years and best advice I can give you is start with known genetics and knowing the plants history is valuable info. With all that said I would take several cuts, reveg and reverse one of the cuts then toss one of the other clones in the same tent and let the magic happen. STS is what I prefer for reversing a female to produce feminized pollen :love_you_gesture:

You know I wasn’t and am still not sure whether to expect pollen sacks, seeds or a bit of both. My plan originally is to grow 2 fem white widows along side my favorite looking Day Stripper in a 2×4 tent. Of course that will all take time what with revegging and cloning. The challenging part will be to leave room for x amount of clones by the time theyre ready. I would spray one of the clones and use a sandwich bag to prevent unwanted cross contamination.

I would not recommend this for 2 reasons Growmie.

1- the pollen will become damp from the condensation created by the zip lock bag.
2: anything remotely close will get pollinated, it only takes a milli particle of pollen to pollinate any female plants within range. I have a grow space in my garage and a separate tent upstairs in my house for breeding. It’s always my last stop and immediately remove my clothes and shower after visiting that tent and before re-entering my grow room :love_you_gesture:

I know pollen deactivates when it gets wet but isn’t that ok if it’s already on the flower? Idk and have no experience breeding so this is why I ask. There’s just two traits to like about this strain like potency, citrus and gassy flavors. If I can hit any of those traits, i’ll be satisfied. And if the pollen hits other areas, totaly worth it xd.

If you are going to breed the plants, get cuttings from all plants you want to use. Pick one for a male and flip and spray that with silver thiosulphate solution (STS) a couple of weeks before flipping the females.

The wanna be male plant should be sprayed outside or somewhere there are no other plants. Wear gloves, safety glasses and a mask when using STS because it’s poisonous if you inhale it. It can also burn your skin and eyes if it comes in contact with them. The plant you want to turn into a male should be sprayed in the evening just before lights out. Once it has been sprayed and excess STS has dripped off, you can put it back in a tent.

Get the male to be plants ready a couple of weeks before flipping females so the female flowers are a couple of weeks old when the male’s pollen is ready. Then you can use a small paint brush to take the pollen and brush it onto the female flowers.

The pollen can be collected and frozen before the females plants are flipped. If you can’t keep it frozen don’t make male flowers too early because pollen degrades after a few days to a week once it’s removed from the flower, (faster in warm weather). Pollen also degrades if it gets wet so try and avoid getting water on the male flowers.

Seeds will always have a lot of genetic variation in them and you can have 100 seeds off the same mother plant and each baby plant can be different. Normally you get some that are similar to the mother but there will be variation in plant size, shape, leaf color, flavor, etc. to reduce the variation some people clone the plant and breed the clones with each other. They take cuttings off the mother plant and grow them on, then turn one of the cuttings into a male and use it to fertilize the female cuttings. Inbreeding a plant will weaken it to some degree but if it’s a one off it shouldn’t make a lot of difference.

If pollen is allowed to come into contact with the female parts of the flower, it will be taken in within a few minutes to hours and after that it can get water on the flower but the flower will already be fertilized. If you breed the plants, keep water off the flowers for at least a couple of hours (24 hours is better) after fertilizing them.

It’s basically rendered useless after getting wet. There’s a possibility to set it aside to dry and store for future use but even that can be a crap shoot :love_you_gesture:

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough. Inbreeding is part of the plan to begin with but I never thought to call it inbreeding lol. Good to know it shouldn’t matter much. The parts about planning and syncing flowering times was def not going to be a part of it working with only one tent. If I need to flower everything all at once, I can alteast collect the pollen I would think. White widow × Day Stripper seeds sound interesting. Theyre both evenly balanced hybrids so maybe they could get along. Looking back now, I have bred seeds using pollen sent to me in the mail before that turned out to be plump and healthy looking. Made alot of seeds kind of a dull, darker color. It was “VA Skunk” pollen which I brushed onto a female plant called “Hyper Blue Cherry Magoo”. Good times.

Oh shit. I found them lol

I had already donated a few containers of 25 each and grew them. Yield was fine but nothing remarkable about the smoke.

I love the names people come up with for these plants
