Welcome to the forum, @Smkd2JB4. I see you have been reading here in the forum for a few hours over the past month. Do you have a question or a comment?
Inconsistent seeds. Plants are not all the same. Super Lemon Haze in front, BlueDream in the back. This is the third grow from seeds I received from ILGM that has the same plants growing way different than the other. I will buy my seeds from another reputable source and not here anymore. I spent enough money for a product that is way too inconsistent with plants of the same variety.
I’d like to point out 2 things.
The only consistent thing about autos is their inconsistency. Growers get runts, those that flower too early, those that flower too late, and so on.
Keep in mind that plants are genetic creatures just as people are. They cannot be expected to look the same. Individual cannabis seeds are cousins at best, even if of the same strain. I don’t know about you, but I look nothing like my cousins.
You will get the same inconsistency from any seed seller, particularly when growing autos.
Your plants look healthy. Good growing.
They are called phenos my dude. Hop on YouTube and watch some pheno hunt videos. These are 3 Melon Cookies from GHSCo…
I cannot even do the sea of green with inconsistent plants. Other seed dealers and their seeds do not produce as much inconsistent plants as the seeds you are selling. Maybe you guys oughta quit putting all the seeds together in bulk because like you said, auto flowers are not consistent but are if coming from the same plant for seeds. The money I spent on seeds here does not justify inferior products because some seed dealers cannot separate the same seeds from one plant to another and just put them all together. Looks like you are putting all the seeds together and counting out 5-10 seeds for packaging and I get it, easier for you guys to do that instead of separating the seeds from one plant to another, that’s causing all these inconveniences of growing different genetic altered plants.
I understand phenols dude. They can be consistent if grown from the same seeds that one plant produces. The mix of different seeds from different plants is causing all the inconsistent plants. That’s what I am saying.
If you think you will get identical results seed-to-seed anywhere else, then you are going to be disappointed, but good luck to you. Come back and let us know how it goes.
They may not be “identical” but at least the plants will not have such a drastic change from one to another. The plants should at least grow in the same manner as the other seeds and not be bushy for one and a stick figure for the other. Dense buds on one and loose leafy buds on the other. This is all with growing in the same media and nutes.
So, I guess firstly, autos. That’s your number one reason for plants looking different. I grow autos regularly and definitely have inconsistent results. Not bad, well, not always lol. MNot just ILGM, either, though. Many breeders.
B. There is not a single member here that works on an ILGM farm. There are I believe 2 members that work for customer service, however.
Anyway, if you want to do a SOG, photo clones, 1 gallon containers, with minimum veg time is your best bet. Or long veg one or two photos and do a SCROG.
My guess is logistically keeping all the seeds separate is not feasible, but even seeds from the same plant are going to throw different phenos was all I was saying. Especially hybrids, but a lot of strains have multiple crosses now, so many genetics coming outta one plant. I am not an expert at all, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
If SOG is your jam, then I suggest growing photos instead. Autos are just too inconsistent. You may have one that flowers at 3 weeks where the other doesn’t flower for 8 weeks, which would create a problem even bigger that the current issue you are dealing with.
Huh… All I can say is good luck brother. You are chasing a very elusive critter.
Just like when growing peppers and tomatoes from seed, I plant 2 per pot and pick out the weakest. I usually re-pot the weaker looking one and use for filler plants, lol. Sometimes get a surprise! But, yeah, you can’t expect a seed producer to supply 100% consistent seeds, that’s what cloning is all about.
Even identical twins have differences. Even personalities.
Brother and sisters look similar, but they all come in different shapes.
Again, differences in offspring. Different heights, different structures.
Everyone grows differently in the same conditions. Some people fail at tests, and some are great test takers. Some eat more, some eat less.
Overall in general, every plant is unique, that’s growing. I haven’t seen tomatoes plants that are identical either. It’s all over nature.
If you do like specific structures, or features of a plant, after you’ve grown them, this process is called cloning.
Cloning results in the same exact plant most of the time. The yield can be higher the terpenes can be better from one plant or another and you clone that plant, because it has features you desire.
If you want identical plants, from grow cycle to grow cycle, as long as your environmental conditions are identical between grows, you will get similar results.
I hope this helps.
Very good information provided above…
Dunno where your remarks such as didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night had anything to do with what I was saying. I guess you are one of those with some quick witted remarks all the time that makes no sense.
If you want plants to grow and look similar, you need to research breeders that sell IBL. F1 and S1s and so on. Pricey and still a risk unless their very reputable
Hey there, welcome aboard.
I’m in a similar situation as you. there’s some different techniques I want to do and SoG is one I’m VERY interested in doing. That being said, I have a few years worth of autoflower seeds that I’ve been working my way through and I’m either going to pack’m away or use’m up and get some photo seeds and start cloning. That’s the only way to get that beautiful even canopy in a SoG.
It took me a while to figure it out, but that’s just the way autos are. It doesn’t matter what seed bank you use. Auto’s are hybrids of at least two, ruderallis and either indica or sativa and often all three. Which traits come out as dominant cannot be controlled, they are organic matter after all.
I know the frustration, I had to change all my plans and had already collected a lot of my components for my grow set up, and just had to change my entire plan. I still get GREAT freaking smoke, so it’s all good.
I feel your frustration but if you buy auto seeds from anywhere you’ll still have a hybrid. I hope you can grow and enjoy what you have, because you’ll end up even more frustrated if you buy anymore auto seeds expecting different results.
On a positive note, let me show you what ILGM auto seeds are capable of. Yes the canopy is not even, I’ve “super cropped” quite a few because I didn’t get set up correctly and was getting to close to my light, and some of it is due to being three different strains, and some of it is just because they’re autos. But I think it’s pretty bad ass. (These are 9 weeks)
