Im new to indoor growing and i have limited space . I like to know the best training methods to keep my plants as short as possible while still producing a healthy thriving plant
Welcome to the forum.
If you want to limit plant height, the learn about techniques such as topping and supercropping. Having really good lighting is another way to help a plant remain short while also getting good yields.
Well alot of factors play in the toll if autos I’d say do fins or tops with lots of lst. If photos u can basically do what u want as they have plenty of recovery time. Welcome and plenty of growers here to help get tu thru the finish line.
Good point. Another thing to consider is that, if they are photos, then flip them quickly. It’s not uncommon for cannabis to double in size during the first few weeks of flowering.
I do LST, I start as soon as they are out of the seedling stage. I don’t have a plant in my tent over 14 inches high. Just remember if you’re not going up you’re growing out. The plant in the front right of the tent is 28Lx26wx14h
Welcome to the community ! 1st I would start out with a Indica dominant strain. Follow up with topping at about 5 or 6 nodes if it is a photo plant 4 or 5 on autos. Also as As mentioned training.
In addition to all of the recommendations given, add SCROGing to your arsenal. Hard to beat for low, flat and wide
What do you consider short?
Do you need them to be less than 2ft tall?
Or just trying to avoid 6 foot trees?
Your needs could be met in different ways if we know what you mean by short.
Well consider there in a cabinet that is only about 3 and a half foot tall at the highest point thats without the added height of the pot and the lights hanging as high as i can hang it
So i may have about 16 inches of so until the plant reaches the light
16inches is not enough room. Considering in flower you have a chance to double height. You need min of… this is just a guess 30inches.
Maybe could do an auto…stunt it’s growth and get a half zip.
Impo id either recommend high stress training with topping and flattening out your canopy as thats not alot of room to leave for stretch once it happens are you able to invest in a cheap say 4x2 tent? also heres a pic of a photo plant im finishing now thats in a 1 gallon pot that i trained out its under 1ft tall including the height of the pot
That’s pretty short, so definitely strict LST, and you’ll want to learn about super cropping before you get into flower, as you’ll almost certainly need it
Very nice for a small one… I’m guessing it’s not your first grow though the technique your using looks like you’ve been working on for a while.
We grew a Blueberry Auto in a armoire least year. Got 3 ounces from it.
Something like this…
We lined it with reflective material.
Had an old 135w burple that I replaced in the tent so we use it for seedlings now.
Didn’t have room in the tent for the BB so we let it go in the armoire and it did ok.
It grew up to the light of course but the final product was fine.
If I were to do it on purpose again I might choose a photo period and just keep two leaders going left and right and then flip to flowering.
LST or SCROG. Flatten the growth at just under 1/2 of your available height, and then flip.
This plant is ~30" from the floor of my tent, and was LST’ed then the net set over for support:
Ive done lst in the past with a few plants this was actually my 1st plant ive ever done hst with tbh ive only been growing going on a couple years max now thos 2 plants in that pic was done with 2 clones from my last run im now experimenting with mainlining or manifolding as its also know as this is my cherry pie im currently working on just did this yesterday a before and after
