I got kicked out of the Green Thumb Club

Tons of videos and info online with the RDWC style you’re talking about.
It’s a completely different type of build though, so I’d recommend some screen time checking it out before making a decision. Gary from PA hydroponics has tons of videos about what he calls “fallponics” (the one you’re describing) and “stirponics”. You’ll have to do your own search though, as he sells grow equip, so a link would be a no no.

Edit: I was kinda hoping you went aeroponic, I wanted to see how it went!

Can I use the misters spraying low pressure into the root zone and still have the root ball in the nutrient solution?

I guess you could… but you’d still need to aerate each bucket individually, and that bubbling action alone accomplishes a very similar effect of misting the air chamber portion of the bucket anyway, so it seems like it would be a lot of extra plumbing for little return.

Ok. So I could just have the water running into the buckets without the misters as long as I have a really nice rolling bubble thing going on in the buckets?

Yep. If the water stream splashed down into the solution, that’d aerate it even more as a bonus.

Not a great pic, I just took it, but you can see how wet the net is just from running an air stone. This is that little plant on the right in my earlier post.

Your biggest issue then I think, would be devising a way to keep a constant water level inside each bucket. I’ve used an elbow and standpipe before, then it would drain like the build in my journal, just a thought.
Otherwise you’ll have to hard plumb them all together somehow to get them all even levels. It’s one of the trickier parts of this kind of system, at least for me.

This is great. I really didn’t want to use the sprayer heads. I can have the water running in and splashing to add more turbulence. I’m looking for air pumps now.

I’m seeing the large ones but they seem to be really loud and produce heat. I think a small one for each bucket and the reservoir is the way to go.

I just use the grey Hydrofarm ones with 4 outlets and 2" stones. I have a few and they seem to work for me… I guess that’s in the pic I posted earlier too

My first light fixture is complete.
(5) SF-1000 lights. Each one slides insides the fixture and is individually dimmable.
500 watts right now with room for another 100 watts.

The frame is 2020 extruded aluminium with hardware.
48 inches wide by 30 inches deep.
It covers a 3x5 grow area perfectly.
Should work great for two plants under each fixture.

well I grow in single 12 gallon tote/reservoir for each plant and I did the top water feed for a few grows and then realized it was not needed along with the water pump to support it …it did give a bit of boast to veg but at flower all evened out so I have dropped it from my current
gows.

How are you circulating you water?

A couple of pics of the second light fixture being assembled.

My lights are finally done.
Now i finish the buckets and get the system setup and tested.

But first…

CANDY TIME!

I have 4 air stones in the tote and that circulates the nutrient / water within the tote…I start with 5 gallons and as she drinks I add no nutrient water until I completely change out the tote after 7 days and start over with fresh nutrient water

I can get by with DWC in the winter, but it just won’t work for me in summer months. If I want to grow without Pythium in the summer, I need RDWC and a chiller. I’ve thought about going aeroponic for that reason, but I’m leaving the hardware alone for now, since I think I have my particular setup dialed in, and am working the genetics and nutes angles for now. Trying to get into cloning and continuous grow cycles.

What does this do?

It’s the pathogen responsible for root rot and likes a warm bath.

Here’s the basic design.
I still need to wrap the buckets in reflectix and set up the air pumps.
This was the leak test.
It passed.
It leaks.

Looking good.
