Hydro ph rising fast

So this is my first hydro grow. Growing in a flood and drain set up. My plants are super small. I could of waited on nutrients a lil longer but i was trying to see how much the ph would swing. Ill ph to 5.8 and my ph will be 6.5 the next day. Even phed to 5.5 and it was around 6.5 the next day. Used root riot cubed to start and growing in hydroton. I rinsed them off before using them. Fed 1387 ec starting out. It dropped maybe to 1,300 ec. Im using drip nutrient line. But i did add a advanced nutrient tablet, a qrter of one. I’m curious if that’s what may be doing it. I know it cant be good adding that much ph down everyday. But any info would be awesome, ive seen people ask this before but no good answers. May flush my system and try jacks 321 just to see if it does the same. Or redo it without the tablet.

My plants are super tiny btw. No true leaves yet. This is a pic from about a week ago.

Anything like a wave maker or pump keeping the res solution moving and what’s the solution temps :love_you_gesture:

If the hydroton didn’t get a good conditioning first (wash/rinse/repeat, then a full dry, then a 24hr soak), it can give you issues like that for a while, especially if it’s the first res.

I’d maybe think about starting with a fresh res, then checking res pH before and after a fill/drain cycle. If it’s your pebbles, you’d know it right away. It sounds like you’re wanting to start with a fresh batch of solution anyway, so something to keep in mind.

Reservoir capacity can be increased which will slow down PH swings. Having a WaveMaker is a good idea. Running air will also lower PH due to CO2 in the air.

Think you was right. I changed the rest and im not putting in nearly as much ph up! Thank god. I thought i rinsed them good. Apparently not though. I’d say the next res change theyll do even better. Thank you brotha
