I’ve seen it before but I wouldn’t say normal buds supposed to snap before done drying Add if humidity is kept in check they should remain
Try leaving the lids off for a few hours and then try again
For about how many days/weeks should I do this? Leaving it out for a couple hours will make the stems dryer? Cause all the stems bounce back when I try to bend them.
I’ve been told by most that you can’t go wrong with 3month cure
And thats everyday I should leave them out for a few hours? Or just do that for a week and see what happens?
What do you mean by humidity on point? I don’t jar my buds until smaller stems lose pliability.
Should make everything dryer
@Justin4583 I will try that see if it helps and @dbrn32 meaning the humidity in jars are at a good humidity percentage. Its at 58-59 humidity Without broveda packs.
What are you testing rh with? Good chance it’s off or maybe you jarred a little early.
Mini hydrometer that @MT3 recommended me too. I dried them for about 6 days then jarred them the buds had felt dry enough to jar. I leave the jar lids open for an hour and a half for 3 days before that i left jar open for 3hrs once a day for 2 days. I had just got someone that doesnt smoke to smell in jar and she said 1 jar smells 75 percent piney and sandlewood (however you spell it) she said it smelled 25 percent of hay the other jar she said it smells like hay still but can smell skunk from it but hqy smell still over powers it. I think im noseblind to the smell. It is 4th week curing today. When I smoke it it gets me buzzing good like for example my fiance takes the first hit of the day she feels really high. Samething with me. I tried smoking it in a blunt but it kinda doesnt taste pungent if you know what I mean. Still hits though. Im guessing I need to cure it longer? There is no sign of mold or anythong like that. Does it take longer for the chloryphyll and sugars to break down? To me I can tell ots getting stronger and stronger but the skunky smell is coming back slowly. Is gg4 strain when it fully cures and done supposed to reek of skunk smell like hit you in the face skunk smell? If so mines not yet smelling like that. Some people had told me it all depends on the strain.
Okay when I got her to smoke a little bit that doesnt smoke at all she said it creeps up on her (the high) but with the taste she said it tastes kinda like she ate soil/dirt out of the ground. Does that taste seem kinda right?
If it’s getting better you will probably be in good shape. I would continue to burp the jars once a day for little while. The taste you are describing is commonly referred to as “earthy”, and is a thing. Just as pine and sandalwood.
A good example of a taste or smell that can be described as “earthy” is White Widow. As @dbrn32 mentions, earthy is a describable characteristic, and WW is known to be earthy even with proper curing. Time and proper curing does calm down the upfront flavor profiles, but they will always be present. Other notable flavor profiles in other strains that can be detected are blueberry, cheese and diesel among a host of other nuances.
Oh okay I got it now. Im sure now it will take atleast a month and a half hopefully lose a good bit of hay smell. Burping them for a few days for about 45 minutes a day seems to be helping out alot. Its weird when I bend the buds to smell inside of bud it smells how it should even when I grind it up it smells really good it is just the outside bud that still smells like chloriphyll and hay smell. @MT3 @dbrn32
Sometimes it takes a few weeks to lose that hay-like smell, but it will eventually calm down for you with proper curing as you are finding.
I have done both dry and wet trimming, and have found that wet trimmed buds seem to lose that vegetal smell more quickly. I suppose that makes sense as you are trimming off more of the fan leaves that are giving you that smell. Another tip is to hang dry a few days until the stems bend but don’t hard snap like a dry twig. You can feel them cracking but there is some pliability left. THEN, I put the buds into a large brown paper grocery bag (folded over so the buds are protected) and leave it in a well ventilated place like under a gentle ceiling fan. Rotate contents around every day, and in 2 or 3 days, I jar and begin the cure. I think there is something about the bag that helps remove some of the hay-like smell.
Sounds like you are well on you way to curing success. Great job!!
Thank you. It turned out good now smells good. Now I got another question for you @MT3 and @Dr.DankThumb420 — since I haven’t grown any autoflower seeds before, is it okay to use scrog method and top them to get more yeild or is it best to leave autoflower seeds alone & let them grow by themselves? I’m going to use my 600 watt light on the autos and 1000 watt on feminized seeds.
Or is it best to have 2 autoflowers and 2 feminized seeds in a 3x3 grow tent running 1000 watt light? I want to train 2 feminized seeds the way i have been. I been told it takes about 2 months for autoflowers to be finished. Basically the question is it possible to start scrogging feminized seeds after autoflowers are done harvested also is it possible to grow auto flower with mh bulb since I am wanting to grow the seeds all at once?
I’ve grown a share of autos before, and in my best opinion, these plants need to get off to a good start as quickly as possible. It is very typical to see some pistil formations begin to show flower as early as 3 weeks of age, but more typically week 4.
I don’t do any topping or fimming since these girls don’t need any damage to try to recover based on their quick flower start. There are a group of folks who do experiment with topping auto plants, but I think the rule of thumb here is to proceed carefully. I do, however, take every opportunity to increase my yields by bending and tying with LST.
You’ll see many folks and seed banks claim to have a seed/strain that will give you a harvest in 60 days. While this may be true, I frankly have not found that strain. Most of the ones that I have tried seem to take around 12 weeks start to finish while the average photo make take around 16 weeks, depending on your veg length of course. After discussion with other growers, I concluded that an auto grow shaves about one month (4 weeks) off a grow compared to the average photo strains. There are exceptions such as Lowryder and FastOne, but this is only their marketing info and I haven’t tied either. I did grow a Mazar which claimed to be a super fast plant, and it really went about the average auto time around 11-12 weeks.
If you want more information on auto plants, there is a forum called Auto Flower Network (AFN) and the folks are focused on Autos of course. Because I have a small tent, I have never mixed A’s and P’s in the same tent grow. I actually grow most A’s outside and baby/nurture/train my photos in the tent for the best yields possible. Of the A’s I have grown inside, I keep my lights on 18 hours and off 6. Some growers push 20/4 and even 24 on, but the root systems need some down time to grow properly…in my opinion, FWTW.
I’ll tag @Missiles on this mixed tent Auto and Photo grow and she may be help you or tag some additional folks who may do this.
Yes you can grow them both in the same tent under the same lighting if you want. I have done it. You also can scrog an auto. My friend @Not2SureYet is a great Auto grower and has scrogged and topped plenty of them with excellent results. I personally do not top my Autos anymore. I did one of them but the timing wasn’t right and it stunted her. But there were plenty of people that do it and don’t have a problem at all.
