So I was wondering when this site tells you how much yield a plant should make how is that calculated what size pot and all that
I don’t know and don’t pay any attention to “estimates” anyway. They are mostly useless because so much depends on the environment etc.
Shorter bushy plants with large colas will do better than most sativa, but sativa can get big and increase yield.
The formula that works best for me is a SCROG net with good lighting in hydro.
The best pot to use IMHO is a 5 or 7 gallon cloth pot for indoor.
You can get a lot of yield out of plants by letting them get bigger, but trade off is additional time in veg, lights times and nutrients so it cuts into the yield. I shoot for a quick grow with 4-6 oz of premium bud. I don’t even weigh the rest to be honest even though I use loose narfy buds and sugar leaves for edibles or whatever.
The estimate really assumes an experienced grower and ideal conditions. The estimates can be used as a relative comparison, but most folks can’t count on the weights referenced. A newer grower can certainly get several ounces from a small to moderate sized plant.
I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of time you let the plant veg for. The longer you veg the bigger the potential for a good sized harvest.
I veg mine for only five weeks and then flower. I do that to control the size of the plant. I perfer a variety over quantity. I can grow four small plants in my 4x4 tent. Each plant consistatly gives me 3 to 4 ounces in that time frame.
Yup a good working plan.
I been reading alot on faster harvest and more grows per year so sounds like just take what it gives and plant some more lol thanks everyone this is my first grow and I’m using some seeds off a runts plant from what I’m told but definitely will ne ordering off this site in near future
There are a bunch of different ways to grow. I think a 5 week veg with ~9.5 week flower (I don’t include the first week of 12s in the flower count).
Learn how to clone. It saves a ton and will let you explore different ways to grow. Saves seeds too. I have an Oxyclone 20 which gets roots on plants in 10 days that can be put in hydro or soil. Love that thing. Super easy to use and no clogged sprayers.
So 5 weeks from germination or when you take it off clone machine?
5 weeks in veg from germination of seed. Depending on how large I want the plant to get. Clones are the age of the mother so look at them as waiting until they are big enough then flip to 12/12s. (Really size is more important that age after the plant passes 4 weeks and is mature enough to flower).
More of an art to determine that based on experience with the strain, guessing stretch after 12/12s etc.
Its by space “21 oz per 3x3ft” that’s for GSCX
21oz for a 3x3 space. Seems like BS
If you count the whole plant maybe. My best so far is 14oz per plant in hydro. 2x3 space for each plant. That is 14oz premium bud that is. Not sugar leaves or what ever.
I grew a couple outdoor plant at 14 ounces as well. I bet if I vegged that for an extra 2 or 3 months I could have a huge plant. One of my big plants was purple Kush. In the description is say an experienced grower could expect to yield 8 ounces per plant outdoor. I exceeded that already.
I was growing Gold Leaf and a strain called Night Nurse (Colombian Gold, Mexican, Thai and Afghani supposedly). I was surprised to be honest, but it was a hydro run that went about as good as it could have. I did use GH Floralicious in this grow. It might have boosted me up, but did cause pH to drop and force me to pay close attention to it twice a day.
So I have another question when I put into flower when its lights off for 12 hrs do I still want my fans going or do I want it just silent and dark?
Keep the fans on. It keeps air moving and prevents mildew etc.
Ok awesome gonna have fans on full time I think I’m gonna add another fan as well. Just waiting on my 1000 watt HPS to come in so I can switch em over
Its by space not by how big/long you veg your plant
For indoor purposes this is usually quoted by square meter of canopy. Pot size, plant count, veg time or anything like that doesn’t really play into that at all. This is because it doesn’t really matter if you have 1 plant in scrog with 10 gallon pot, 16 plants in 2 gallon sea of green, or something like 6 plants grown naturally in 5 gallon pots. 1 square meter worth of any of them will have roughly the same yield potential. There will absolutely be differences in the amount of experience the grower has and maybe some for equipment. And they’re absolutely assuming good healthy plants, in well designed space, in the hands of a capable grower. But most of the breeder estimates aren’t as far fetched as they look in hands of experienced grower.
