Anyone have any tips lowering soil pH? Starting to see some brown spots with minor veining, so checked soil pH and its around 7.4. Id like it to be 6.5ish.
FoxFarm ocean forest soil. Bermans nutes. I pH my water to 6.5-6.8 range after adding nutes… my filtered tap water test at 8.4 or sometimes close to 9! So I pH correct every gallon I use.
I found soil acidifiers online. Also considered doing a flush. I can’t figure out if bergman nutes affect pH the way foxfarm trio does. But that usually crashes the pH, not the other way around.
Thanks! Came for the seeds, but found this community to be even more valuable!
I have something similar, but i thought you only add that to water
You do… i just used some Epsoma Soil Acidifier in a couple of my plants and waiting for results now. I am nervous because i am hoping i didn’t add to much. Have you any experience with the stuff?
I haven’t used it. I’ll look into it tho!
Decided to wash it through with water about 6.2 ish. Ppms were in the 1400 range at output. Didn’t think bermans needed the wash through like foxfarm nutes. But I’m still figuring it all out.
Anyway I’ll check it again tomorrow.
Not sure what would raise the pH! My vegatables herbs and such (which are my wives trade off for me growing my fun!) i don’t t always pH the water. But I am fanatical about it with MY plant lol!
Was thinking there may be something i could just put on the soil.
@MidwestGuy
Lol, think you miss understood brother. Let me rephrase…not sure “why” my pH is elevated.
I sure did.
It’s strange. pH generally drifts low, not high.
yup, if u set the pH of ur water to about 6.2-6.5 (since ur using soil) it should help regulate those soil numbers as well
You might consider dolomite lime. It helps stabilize and buffer pH.
I’ve always subscribed to 6.5 - 6.8 when growing in soil. Every grow I seem to have issues with PH creeping up in the soil. My water comes out of the tap angry, around 8.7, and I always PH’d down to the 6.5 - 6.8 range.
This grow I decided to PH to 6.0 every watering from seed to now and things seem much better. I also have started to use recharge pretty much every watering which pushes the PH back up a bit. I figure the plant can buffer from there.
These are in week 6 approaching week 7 in flower. (They just started to run low on nitrogen in the last week)
Sounds pretty much like my situation! I’ll try going 6 and see.
I’ll also look into the dolomite lime!
Dolomite lime will definitely raise your pH and stabilize it to 7.0 ive used it before. Just dont add alot in. Add small amounts until you hit 6.5
If you buy Epsoma Garden Lime it gives directions on the back. Good luck.
How old are the plants Growmie? You can always do a reset flush to get the PH back in range then top dress some dolomite line to help keep the PH in a lower range that 7
As mentioned a few times, dolomite will slowly stabilize your ph. Id use a few tablespoons and water in…
Its about 10 weeks, but it stunted for about a month. I’m treating her like shes. 5 weeks lol!
Gotta do some reading on dolomite lime. Maybe this weekend. Thanks!!
Aww man I’m having a big problem with my ph is way too high I’ve tried ph down and ive bern wstering with 5.5 ph water please please help
Aluminum Sulphate works. I used 2 tablespoons in a 5 gallon pot to adjust it from 6.4 to 5.9. I will have the results in a day or 2.
You can also flush the pot down with pH down.
