How and when to trim fan leaves

Hello,
My girl is on week 15 (6th week of flower) and I’m wondering when I should trim her up to expose bud sites.

I’m scared of overcutting and don’t know if I should trim all at once, ive already removed big fan leaves but only on main branch.

Take off the leaves that are blocking the light or tuck them away so they arent in the way

But to what extreme ? All leaves on top canopy are blocking lower canopies, but if I cut theose do I also cut the canopy bellow ?

Take off about 2 dozen and snap a photo. I would focus on one cola at a time. Look at the branch and clip off a few of the largest fan leavs. Than move to the next.
The plants is looking very healthy and happy.

Happy cake day ! I would start by cleaning up around the bottom leafs are not getting much light anyway. That will help with the air flow. My 1st choice would be tuck A few of the big fan leafs. And it’s also OK to take a few For better light penetration. That’s just me, everybody’s has a different style. I’m with @anon86641082 Plant Looks very happy.
Good luck

@kellydans @anon86641082 thanks for the clarification, I got some errands to run but I’ll post pics when I get back and trim, I’ll probably cut 2-4 of the fan leaves on the top of each cola, take a pic, and wait for your comments  see you later!

As for the bottom leaves and airflow, I’ll wait till I get feedback on the trimming of top canopy

@kellydans @anon86641082 ok so I did a bit more cutting than planned, but I focused on trying yo get light down to at least the middle of the plant.

What do you guys think ? Too much ? Not enough ?

I think it looks great. You could take a few more off the very bottom area. But no biggy. Solid work!

Right about the stage you look to be at, if it’s a nice hardy plant with plenty of sugar leafs.
And your looks to be.
I take every single leaf that is attached with a steam and not directly attached to a bud. I literally pluck them by hand so no little bits left behind to die and rot in my bud… .
I leave her 2-3 big one on bottom outside so she can still communicate with me, thirsty or deficient what have you… seems to make buds swell up nicely…

I thought trimming after flowering started was not recommended. I’ve got one 2 weeks into flowering that really needs a trim. I guess it’s ok to do it?

Yea your fine to trim as needed. I wouldn’t get too crazy tho. I have over did it before lol. But hey you grow and you learn…

Your girl looks great by the way. Love how she has that one main huge kola . Great job

You can thin during the entire life cycle of a plant. Maybe dont do ‘huge’ thinnings when the flowers are super plump. Less stress is best!

Well I just did the rest of the trimming, cut about as much as last time and well, I did just do a big trim while my nugs are big, although idk how that could hurt them… I have heard that actually controlled stress near the end of flower could boost nug production as the olant thinks winter is very close. Some people give dark periods and such, I think trimming is a similar thing. Anyways here’s how she looks, and I’ll keep you poster for any negative effects !

Following this one closely. I’m right behind you in my cycle.

Update, shes doing great and seems to have reacted well to the trim. The lower nugs are slightly gaining in vertical size but havent gotten noticeably thicker yet.
