Home lab equipment for terp and %

Hey all. I want to buy an analyzer that does thc content for sure, but also terps. I want a decent one. I want to see how my weed I grow stacks up. I do diff experiments, it’s kinda my thing. I get my curiosity fix…it only makes me more focused on taking each grow to the next level. So does anyone have solid first hand suggestion? Like they own one or desire to have a certain one?

A few months ago I went looking for something similar. I found a product for a little over $1000 that takes a sample of bud, put it in a disposable case, and it analyses the sample for THC, cbd and terpine profile. Cost less than $2 to run a test. Been thinking about it a lot.

If I take a sample to a lab it might be a little more thorough, but costs $80 for each test and is a four hours trip.

I have the Tcheck2 it measures % of THC and total cannabanoids but doesn’t break down to terpene levels or THCA/B, or CBD. Tells me what I need to know about dosage for edibles. Im not looking for total breakdown, just potency. Wish I could be more help. Thanks for the tag @Hashtonbutcher

@CMichGrower that’s prob the one I keep circling around, I am so intrigued I’m really considering it. I tried to think of a way to make it make me some money, like charge ppl for samples way less than a lab… lol. Someone recommended these: theck, apparently it really comes close to labs findings, MyDx also. Idk. I just don’t want anything gimmicky.

@Thatbaldguy do you think it’s accurate? I want a terp analyzer too, but those ones are REALLY pricey. I’m not trying to turn my house into a lab. And I feel like it could say anything and I’ll most likely believe it. Thc context is the most important. Have you checked it results with a certified lab? Would you recommend?

Have not compared to any lab results for accuracy but would definitely recommend. @Newt thoughts?

I’ve been thinking of investing in a tCheck with the flower kit…

Will it tell me if my bud is 10,20,or 30% etc THC or is it not that straight forward?

I am a little confused as to what I should expect.

Like… since no one knows I grow… If i test it… Then let’s say gift some someday… Can I comfortably say… “this is tasty white widow, tested at 25% thc”?

I found the lab advertisement in a Michigan cannabis magazine that my local grow show was giving away.

I tested mine against a pre-roll my kid brought me. I don’t have the results handy but it was close. I think the pre-roll was lab tested at 28.8 and I measured within 1%.

@Newt which tcheck? Seems to be a few diff ones. Or at least diff versions or packs.

I bought the tCheck and the Expansion kit to test flower. But now that I fully understand the tester, I’d have to do some research to see if the expansion kit is a good deal, or not. It consists of things you can readily buy.

I think the only differences between the testers they sell is the color.

I don’t. I check potency in my bong lol. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks @Newt. I would like to be able to test flower, too.

Everything you need (and is provided in the kit) is:

  1. A small very accurate scale, capable of weighing to .01 g precision
  2. Some 99.9% reagent grade isopropyl alcohol (consumable, 100 ml in kit)
  3. Some 1 ml syringes (consumable at some point, 10 in kit)
  4. A 10 ml syringe (consumable at some point, 1 in kit)
  5. Syringe filters for the 1 ml (consumable, I think there were 25 in the kit, use 1 each test)
  6. Some small sealable containers to do the isopropyl wash. (3 or 4 in kit, non-consumable)

All of the consumables above you will end up buying more of at some point, and all are available on Amazon. So, you could simply buy the consumables, a scale, and the containers.
