Hlg leds going bad

I’m going to start off by saying this light has been running about 11 months non stop in all Temps and humidity and only just started to give out, I also noticed the intensity of the light is less then my newer 300 rspec , probably going to retire this Ole girl and either give it to my mom or put it in my closet as a seedling starter( the other board only has about 5 leds burnt out)

That is not good. I would not expect that. Have you reached out to HLG to see if they had a bad run of that model or something?

HLG has a 3 year warranty and their customer service is top notch. I would go to their website and contact customer service.

Nah I just looks at the receipt and it’s been EXACTLY 1 year since I bought it and the warranty just expired on diy kits, ain’t that just my luck I’m just gonna wait till they go on sale or maybe just buy 2 more boards and change them out

Actually I just looked harder and realized it expires TOMMOROW so I’m gonna throw a hail Mary and ask for replacement boards or at least a discount to get 2 more

Got an email from HLG they’re having a sale in October. Maybe you’d get a bigger discount if you mention your “Days past warranty” problem? Worth a try!

Hlg has great customer service. Just tell them. More than 1 year + after buying a 260xl v-2 kit. I was talking to them about upgrading to the R type boards (on sale) when asking about different QB available R type etc. The Rep realized i bought the v2 a few weeks before launching the R type. He apologized and gave me another good discount on top of the sale price and also tossed in an HLG 65 at no charge and free shipping. Smart company.

watching/waiting anxiously in anticipation… i’ve heard good things about customer service/warranty and i hope they live up to it for you. That’s usually how my luck runs also  “if it wasn’t for bad luck…”

@GreenSnek @Audiofreak @TheVirginian In May I ordered two HLG 260 v2 Rspec. I didn’t need them right away but they were on sale. On Sept 22 I was finally ready to assemble and hang them. I pulled the box from the closet where I put it. Opened the box and it only contained one kit. I called and left an after hour message describing my problem. HLG got back to me the following Monday, asked for photos of the mailing label box and contents. I emailed the requested photos. Within 30 a reply email came back with the tracking number for a new kit. Yeah my experience with HLG customer service is 10+.

They seem to be a solid company. Never had issues with customer service. Glad they took care of you.

Pretty much expected the results you stated! Not surprised at all. Sometimes the cheapest price ain’t always the best deal. Its Interesting of all the threads on lighting on this site (and there are a few!) I have never heard anyone switching lights from HLG to something else…maybe I missed them.

Hell yeah! The lights aren’t the only reason so many people suggest them, it’s the whole package.

That’s good! I too expected them to remedy this, would have been pretty disappointed if they didn’t.

Did they comment any on type of failure you have? The randomness of leds that are out has me thinking they had an issue with reflow or large portion of your board isn’t cooling properly. The reflow you have no control over. When you get replacement boards try to note if any of your mounting screws are loose or your heatsink is warped or bent.

If everything looks good I would also clean board mounting surface with some isopropyl alcohol prior to mounting new boards.
