Hermie Questions

Hello Everyone so I have some really good bag seed that I got from some crazy purple bud. Now I had gotten a few batches with no seeds then I got a few batches and I got like 30-40 seeds out of like an OZ or two. Now I’m not sure if this means these seeds are from a hermie plant or what but does that mean these seeds are not worth me trying to grow outdoors in my green house? I don’t wanna waste my time if I’m more than likely to end up with all hermies… anyone any wisdom??? @garrigan62 @Nicky @PharmerBob @blackthumbbetty

They will carry the herm trate at a higher rate yes.

Although its total possible to grow them out and just keep an eye on them, pull any herms or harvest once you see little bannans forming in the buds.

If you don’t care to put that type of time into them then toss em or save em for a rainy day bored experiment.

Otherwise grow them but just he aware. It’s exactly the type of thing ide grow outside because the cost would be minimal.
Drop all the seeds at once and see who gets voted off the island and at what rate lol.

How sneaky are the Hermies though can you 100% spot them if you know what to look for or do some fool you right till the end? Because I’m gonna have. 10x10 green house packed with few other strains haha I don’t wanna ruin but I need these few extra plants to maximize my grow. So I’m debating growing these fire purple seeds or just ordering a fresh known genetic 10pck of reg seeds…

They can be sneaky sometimes and you won’t know till full flower, you see the nanners and then you have to harvest asap. Again it depends on how much attention you can give them. If your not gonna be in your garden every 2nd day then I would say no don’t do it

Thanks for the info. I think I’ll order the proper genetics just to be safe… Even though I’m ordering Reg seeds so imma be on the look out for males anyhow haha. Do you think the risk is the same? Or hermie seeds more likely to produce hermie plants period.

You could top your plants & clone the tops.

Yes good idea but trying to introduce another different strain.

You can use a Jeweler Loupe and you can get a rral food look to see if its viable. Another way to waste time trying to grow seeds that won’t.

Do it in a safe environment, and let it flower out… had a plant do that and seeded the crop. Seems that gene is becoming more prominent

If we’re to understand you correctly, you got several seeds out of some grey market flower, and those seeds grew and some ended up with seeds, right?

Have you considered that some of those plants are just plain male?

No I got some seeds out some buds I got off a buddy and there was a few bags with no seeds and a few bags with a lot of seeds all same strain of bud though. I haven’t grown any of them yet. I’m already gonna place an order now and not deal with the extra hassle of worrying about hermies

I missunderstood “batches.”

I think it’s smart to hold onto those seeds, but buy something with a little more provenance, like you plan to do. Maybe those bag seeds came from a regular male that slipped through, but it seems like a commercial grower would cull an obviously male plant.

Hell throw them outside to grow let mama nature do her thing with them. If u get good bud with seeds so be it use the bud from that and make some butter or oil for edibles and pitch the beans.

@Cannabian Hey man I was reading a thread you posted in about growing indoor and transferring outdoor. I plan on doing this same method this year. I’m germinating my seeds this weekend. Should I just start and keep my lights on 16/8 from sprout till I bring outside? Or no run 18/6 to get growth and switch the light cycle down slower?

If you cam get 18/6 on em until about 2 weeks prior to planting out thats ideal. I mean 16/ 8 works to bit the plants dont get quite the same growth. Dont forget to harden off your plants when you move them under the sun… it will burn them quite badly. I use a shady tree and cloudy days and a period of a week or so gradually introduce them to more full sun :sun_with_face: now I have a greenhouse with opague poly covering that is ideal for hardening off.

Ok thanks a lot man. I too also purchased a green house. My Green house is only a 12x10x7 I was considering when I transplant leaving them in 5gal buckets. Which I know doesn’t give them a lot of room to grow but as you can tell I’m kind of limited on height anyhow. Are 5s good so I can squeeze few extra plants in my green house? Or should I go with at least 7 gal pots?

Well a bigger pot is typically not the problem unless you plan to move the pots. The plants are usually wider than the pots. Myself, Im a direct to ground grower. I only use pots for pre veg.
I use raised beds or mounds. I dont ever dig holes because typically they dont drain well, and cannabis needs well drained soil.
Some guys in greenhouses use dolly and place larger pots on pallets so they can get under them with a dolly jack. In commercial ops they often use electric forklifts and pallet forks. I never grow my weed with less than 100 gallons a plant.

If the seeds were a result of self pollination I’d say ditch them in my experience they end up being herms. Now if it was in a space that had a single plant Herm and it pollinated the other plants in the room then I’d say give them a shot since (if I’m understanding breeding correctly) feminized seeds are made with hermie pollen. Problem is, you probably won’t know which way did it happened unless you can ask the grower.
