I’m about six weeks into flower with a photoperiod ILGM Blueberry CBD Feminized plant. Everything seemed to be going well until I noticed something odd. The colas stopped bulking up and seemed frozen in place. Upon closer inspection I noticed a lot of what I thought were swollen calyxes. NOPE! Turns out they were all seed pods! They are literally all over the plant. I looked closer and discovered several male flowers.
I can only surmise that she hermied on me possibly due to a couple of issues.
For this grow I had my light turned up to provide more light then I have in my other grows. Plant was getting around 850-900 ppfd at the top of the plant.
About two weeks ago I wasn’t paying attention to my watering and she dried up to the point where all the leaves were drooping and some dried up and fell off. I immediately rasied the humidity a bit and got it rehydrated. Everything looked fine after that. But given it takes 3-4 week for seeds to get to the point where they are now I don’t think that was the cause.
Regardless I am now asking the excellent growers on this forum what I should do. I have plenty of smoke from my other grows to last for quite some time. I was growing this one for the high CBD content to use in edibles and topicals.
Should I take it down now to dry and cure it?
Should I let it ride for another 4 or 5 weeks to what would have been it’s expected harvesting window to see how it responds and then take it down for drying and curing?
What are the implications for what happened on the suitability of the plant for my intended purpose?
Thanks for the reply. The pollen didn’t come from another plant. I only grow one plant at a time in a 3x3 tent. I did find what I’m pretty sure are male flowers on the lower part of the plant where I had taken off leaves and weak growth up about 1/3 of the way from the bottom. Actually I should have mentioned that as a possible source of stress to the plant since I did that about three weeks ago and that could have caused the hermies.
Heres what male parts (aka nanners) look like sticky out of a female flower, makeing this a hermaphrodite “aka” hermi..
Hermis can also be a mixture of regular looking male parts mixed in with female parts, its not always just the presence of nanners sticky out of calxy.
If you’re going to be using it strictly for edibles and topicals, let her finish. Only a couple more weeks and you can try and keep up on the seeds by plucking them. At least you’ll get something anyways. I’ve turned hermie plants into hash and topicals and the end result there is mostly fine. The hash might be a little harsh but it’ll get the job done.
I will say my first plant that hermied I chopped way too early and regretted it because it was not a good smoke at all. Had I let her go another week or two it probably woulda been fine. Just gotta pick out some seeds.
Grow it to the end. Toss or keep the beans. If keep will be more prone to this as you are just reinforcing that trait from the mother. Could be a fluke. Many variables. If you grow a bean out and watch it. It grows nice and smooth you are good. It has many nanners toss them all.
As for the seeded flower. It will be awesome. Herbal and smooth. Every flower had seeds before sinsemilla hit.
As a matter of fact the Alien Goo auto I just chopped has seeds. Its sister isnt even close to ready. This 1 shot right up and flowered. No signs of seeds on the other plants but if show I will just card them out before smoke or edible time. The flower on this seeded plant is super sweet smelling and will be awesome smoke. Most seeds get by me in a crowded tent down low.
