First time grower here. Planted on 7/24/23. Planted in composted horse manure, 7 gallon fabric grow bags, growing outside. I was told to only use sea kelp & silica so that is all I’ve used. I’ve been very careful not to over water. It’s been super humid and terrible weather. I’ve had to move them into the garage when storming. Then when the storms pass, I put them back outside in the sunshine. When in the garage I changed fluorescent lights to daylight bulbs, which is the best I can do at the moment due to both room, and the whole idea was to grow outside as I did not want to do an inside set up. They look nice, but they’re still so small. I am assuming maybe I was told the wrong thing and they need more nutrients? Any help would be very appreciated. I actually started a few more in jiffy pots (last 2pics) to see if they do any better. They look good but are only a week old.
How much time are they spending inside vs outside? Your seedlings are stretched indicating not enough light intensity, my guess is same reason holding older plants back.
Also want to consider size of pot they are in. In a big pot they will stall expanding roots for a while, but should then take off. After this as long as you have good light, nutrients, and enough water a healthy plant should grow. Also not sure where you’re posting from, but late July is awfully late for most of us to start outdoor plants.
Since the weather has been so bad I’d say 50/50 inside/outside. I put them outside as soon as the sun comes out. Some of them are in 7 gallon fabric pots and the new ones (week old) are in small jiffy pots. I was worried it was a light issue as you mentioned. I’m in the South East area. Should I be doing more for nutrients? Just using sea kelp & silica since I’m using live soil (composted horse manure).
Thank you so much for your help!!
It really depends on the concentration of your media. I’m not really familiar with what to expect out of straight manure because I’ve never used it by itself, just tilled into garden with other ammendments. I suspect it’s really high in some elements but lacking others.
The most proven way of fixing a leggy seedling is burying it deeper. Just think of it as a regular replanting with one significant difference – you should always remember how gentle the seedlings are. To bury the green youngling deeper, make sure the soil has dried up completely and then dig the cannabis seedling out. Prepare a new, deeper hole, and place the cannabis sprout in it. Loosely cover this hole with soil and voila! Now the ground itself will help the seedling strengthen and gain thickness.

It’s about a 50/50 mix of composted horse manure and this soil mix.
Thank you very much for responding,

Thank you so much for the explanation! This is a dumb question but can I bury the youngling in the degradable jiffy pot in a deeper hole or do I need to dig it out for transplanting into a 7 gallon fabric grow bag. Should I go ahead and transplant now? Also, how much stem do I leave above the soil? I apologize for all the questions, Again, thank you for your help.
either way, I would put it in a 16 0z. solo cup with lots of holes in the bottom for drainage. until it gets bigger, and you are ready to put it in its final pot.
@Dreamer
Wonderful ~ thank you!!
I have seen a lot of stunted plants from these. They are not helping you. Plant looks like it needs more light.
I agree they slow down plant growth I’ve used them in past years i would keep eye on hole in bottom when i seen roots i would pull bottom off then transplant in forever home
Yikes!!! It’s so confusing starting out. I’ve read so much my head is spinning. First I read put them in the pot you are going to grow them in so I did that (7 gallon fabric bags). They are stalling. So I decided to try some more and I read use jiffy pots and apparently that is a mistake. . Should I try to take them out of those jiffy pots (week old) into a solo cup? This looks like it is going to be a tough lesson not to mention they are being grown outside and the weather has been
!!
I appreciate everyone’s help.
@Mountaintime if there in jiffy pots i would pill it off drop it in hole and be done with it. just be easy with it and drop it deep up to the leaves so you can take care of the stretching they are very strong plant but if you are not comfortable with doing that just it in hole up to leaves happy growing my friend
Are those autoflowers or photos
I would take anything in jiffy pots and tranplant them. If you don’t want to take them out at least tear off the bottom.
They are autos🌱
