I would appreciate any advise about flushing/not flushing, and if I should use some sledgehammer someone gave me. The plants are all different strains, 2-8 weeks from the finish line. This question is specifically about the ones that are close. Been feeding them cool bloom and cal mag on a regular schedule for a month now. I feed a couple days hard, then PH perfect water for 3-4 days following.
When should I stop feeding? When if at all should I use the sledge hammer? My plants are all soil grown, some in ground some in bags. The ones in bags are 100% root bound and dry out quickly if they don’t get watered every day. I’m interested in the process people use in the weeks before chopping. Just posing this as a general question and would appreciate any advice I received. Sorry if the info is elsewhere. I searched the grow support category and couldn’t find the answers.
In ground its pointless to flush as you cant remove what’s in the soil. But conversely feeding them is a waste the last few weeks since they will find enough food deep in the ground so why waste the nutrients.
In pots its up to you. Many flush to improve taste but its not a proven thing other than personal grows and experience. I just give plain water the last few weeks and let the plant take back the needed food from lower leaves. They go yellow as the plant consumes them as it would left alone outside.
This topic gets many differing/conflicting points of view so in the end you will just have to make a choice and try it out.
Like you I go to water-only and really nothing else. I will harvest from darkness but that’s just a matter of timing. I don’t normally bud wash in this climate but you may find that to be helpful. Darkness, ice, stem-splitting, extended flushing don’t help. Keeping the plant in the sweet spot throughout the grow does more than anything else.
Man your fast, I wondered the samething, did some forum searching and was able to get a good info from here and the Nutrients that I use suggest it on their feeding charts so I follow their guidelines. there are alot of youtube videos also.
Thank you both @Spiney_norman and @Myfriendis410. I thought the bags should be given water only. PHed or tap(7-7.2) does that matter? Any thoughts about Sledgehammer. Thank again.
If you have a month or more left the sledgehammer will wash out salts built up in the soil. 'But with only 2 or 3 weeks to go its not necessary unless you have something catastrophic going on.
So on plants with a month or more, what would I look for as a reason to need the salts flushed?
Most everything seems to be in the sweet spot, which is very satisfying. Just don’t want to get to complacent now.
The bags, look pretty whiteish on the outside.
I dug holes a foot deep and placed the bags in the holes on top of some compost, so I assume that some tiny roots will get through the bag and feed off the soil outside the bag. It sounds like sledgehammer is to completely reset everything if you cant solve some specific problem?
In your case sledgehammer will be for prevention in the pots that are not in the ground.
Just follow the instructions with the exception that you should feed normally after the flush.
Mine is going good, don’t have a good way to dry set up yet, but the wife is going to see mom and then her cousin in the later half of next month, so the spare bathroom will be set up. Spare bathrooms really work good for keeping the temp and humidity right. I have some g13 drying in a barn right now. Hopefully the temps drop down 10-15 degrees in the next couple of weeks.
My gals are kicking it. Some are still packing on weight with no sign of slowing down. I’ve been giving them compost tea three times a week and they seem pleased with it. A few are really getting yellow leaves but I’m thinking its ok. their time in the sun is almost done.
Really wouldn’t have been this succesful without all the help here. This place is a calm harbor of deep knowledge. So many superstars, with skills I hope too one day equal.
