here are a few pics of what I have I hope they are good enough to give me an estimate as to how much longer till I start harvest process. thanks for the help.
ok these are just a few. one thing when ive been looking at the bud pics there is a white substance on the leafs. when I was looking I thought it was resin from the buds. mine now have this white substance and when I looked with a magnifying glass it looks like little hairs growing from the leafs can someone tell me what that is. thanksId say 3-4 weeks maybe longer. But I’m a newer grower so let others chime in.
I would say you have at least 2 weeks if not more. The hairs Still seem to be white and sticking straight outward. But ultimately the trichomes are going to tell you when to harvest.
We would need a close up view of your trichomes to accurately tell you approximate time you have left before harvest.
Do your white hairs look kind of like this? If so those are the trichomes which are a good thing.
that’s closer than I can see. with what I have to look at them it looks like its growing out of the leafs instead of setting on top like a resin layer would are what you are showing me looks like the are attached to the leafs? also I was thinking before I asked that it would be june first or better. I have some brown hairs but still a lot of whites. I only showed a few plants I have 11 and 7 of those were started a week or so before the last four. rookie mistake but ill take what I can get on my first time. do the buds look good?
look at the pics in nell1 in the lighting forum you can see what mine look like if you look closely it appears the white stuff is growing out of the leafs.
I would say min 3-4 weeks at best
It’s a personal preference as when to harvest the best way IMO is to use a jewelers loop 20x mag or better I use a 60x pocket microscope myself
Watch tricombes and they should be at least all milky or cloudy I prefer about 40-60 cloudy to amber more amber the stronger the couch lock effect
Happy harvest brother
thanks for that. I need to find one of the items you mentioned. its hard waiting for the harvest especially now when they are forming the buds but ive made so many mistakes on my first grow that I want them to have a good chance. the problem is all you guys that grow these great buds and I want mine to look like those. next time I will be better I have learned a lot from yall.
You absolutely positively cannot determine when to harvest without a loupe or magnifier. You can pick one up for less than $10 that will show you what you need. The “resin” dusting you refer to is in fact the trichomes growing from the leaves in proximity to the buds. That’s where the THC is and you want to foster that growth as much as possible. IMO you are still 3 to 4 weeks out from harvest like @Countryboyjvd1971 said. Your buds look good but young. Remember that the hairs contain no THC and is no ready means of judging when to harvest. If you cut down too early you will still have good weed but you will hurt your yield.
thanks for that. I wasn’t cutting anything yet but it helps to know the end is near. and from what you described my stuff is looking pretty good. I knew by the good bud pics that mine was not there, but the mistakes ive made I didn’t know if they would get there now I have hope they will. thanks again.
Agreed, I was thinking at least 4 weeks as well.
The first grow is always a learning process. The key is to take away from your first grow to make your second grow more successful.
Here is a pic of bud from my current grow that shows the trichomes (little hairs growing from the leafs as
You called it) as you can see there are trichomes growing from the leafs as well. Typically buds will get bigger and more trichomes layden in the last few weeks before harvest.
thanks and that is what it looks like so mine are doing good.
@fwn54 how long ago did you go 12/12?
like everything else my grow journal was trail and error also, but I narrowed it down by what I have to april 1st. the problem I have is I have 11 plants. 2 bag seed plants started two weeks before the wws then I did 5 wws a week later and then 5 more wws{1 died so 4} a week after that so I have diff timelines. it helped in a way because I was able to see how they changed, that week makes a lot of difference
Ok @fwn54 gotcha from April first 12/12 the first two weeks are transition to flowering so mid April. Your 60 day estimate if flowering takes you to mid June. About 4 more weeks as a decent estimate. Could be less could be more but a ways to go yet my friend.
They take forever seems like!
sounds about right thanks since they are all in diff places some may come out about mid june then ill see how they are to determine rest. I need to smoke so my patience is growing thin.
I’m with you! @fwn54
ok I now have a pocket microscope. first its hard to use. to see what I need to see I have to get right on top of the bud, does this do damage? also I just looked at a couple but the resin seems to be clear on the ones I looked at. when you say 40-60 cloudy do you mean that the percent of all the resins or one individual resin you can see through it 40-60. and last is there anything else I need to be looking at. when I was able to focus the scope it was very good at seeing the things yall talk about. thanks for the help.
Ok yeah I think I have a similar type of pocket scope I wound up picking a 60xloop instead because it hard to get a steady view with the one I have but it won’t hurt the bud
But in general you want all your tricombes to be cloudy at minimum then once they are all cloudy the will start to change to amber color that’s what I was referring to over all cloudy to milky
Clear is to early to take
thanks I understand what I need to see now and yes its hard to use im too shaky but I get glimps and am getting better thanks for the help,
