Just seen this little white mite looking bug in the soil on one of my seedings thag just popped 2 wseks ago . I just need help identifying it so i kkow the correct treatment to get it under control
My eyes aren’t great. Maybe @Caligurl has an idea?
Its a terrible picture i will try again …i sprayed jacks dead bug on them so they r gone for now
Keep at it, once a day for a week. Should keep anything that decided to hatch in your soil at bay.
I saw him, I just have zero clues
Do they jump?
No they run really fast tho!!!
So those look like “white soil mite” which are highly beneficial.
If they jump they are some type of spring tail which are also beneficial…
Google “white soil mite” and see if the pictures match what you see.
Yes they do look like them …although the ones in my dirt r so very tiny its hard to tell …thanks for the info
They could also be soil/root aphids, which aren’t good to have.
I have used tape in the past to catch tiny bugs so I could use my microscope to see them. It near impossible when they can move around, but get a couple stuck to a small peice of tape and they can’t move around allowing you see get up close and personal with them
Yup… I use the yellow sticky traps… just be careful not to let them near the leaves of your plants LOL… ask me how I know
I use diatomaceous powder around all of my plants. Its like walking on glass, to bugs.
Plus keep jacks dead bug on hand too.
Pest mamagement is huge with outdoor grows…have to try some and find what works for you.
Happy growing
Diatomaceous earth is amazing and at keeping alot of pest down in all kinds of applications.
We put it everywhere it will stay dry around the house inside and out
Behind our base boards are packed with it before we put them down, even loaded the area under our kitchen cabinets with it .
Good stuff for long-term continuous control
that right there is the kicker… it gets all clumpy and nasty when it gets wet too much. I tried it in my strawberry field and was pissed off all year long how it looked. And it didn’t do anything to the friggin flea beetles either.
Yep, had a few gaint house plants we had to transplant cause it just looked awful
Then after a little more research, i learned it doesn’t even really work wet so we dont add it to the containers any more
So use it dry??
People do both but from my experience it definitely works better dry, but many add it soil and it may still work but from my understanding, it needs to be dry and powdery to get into the bugs cracks and cut them up or to be able to suck their moisture out by dehydrating them by absorbing their moisture.
The D-earth can’t do that if it’s full of moisture already…
Aphids hardly move let alone move fast.
Sure, add it dry, but as soon as you water it, it turns nasty. I’ve heard of people amending their soil with it… problem is that the mites here are literally blowing in on the wind and with all the agriculture and wind here… well…
