A few of my girls have started to develop little holes in their leaves. I have only ever grown in a tent. This year I started these babies about 8 weeks ago and they are outside in cloth pots.
I will attach some pictures of the damaged leaves. Can anyone give me some advice on what is causing this and what I can do to stop it from killing my girls? Ive read a little about neem oil and also was told about a product called Yes.

Captain Jacks Deadbug, a must for outside plants!
Welcome aboard! Ya got something chewing them babies up for sure. Captain Jacks Dead Bug Concentrate, mixed at 1.5x strength, as well as another product or two, depending on how bad the problem is. When I do grow outdoors I use the CJDB and Arbor Incesticide Concentrate, mixed at same strength. Keep 2 or 3 in rotation, a lot of pests can build up a tolerance. But @Caligurl uses something that I absolutely can’t remember the name of. Pure Crop 1? Hopefully she gets the tag.
Yup… PureCrop 1
Those holes are usually from snails or slugs. Get some sluggo and spread it around. The PC1 won’t help… You could try DE or try trapping them. Beer works ok but not fool[roof and they do most of their damage at night.
I use a product called organashield and captain jacks dead bug.
I use all of these in a rotation. They can all be used up until harvest. They are all organic and harmless to animals and people.
Purecrop1
Green cleaner
Dr Zymes
Lost coast plant therepy
Annihilation pesticide
Captian jacks dead bug can be added to most of these.
Monterey BT for caterpillars
Sometimes my leaves get holes like that from water droplets. If I accidentally splash water on a leaf in hot sun and dont wipe it off. It burns the leaf after a little while, but it can take a few days for the hole to develop. It’s usually happens on leaves closer to the ground.
@Caligurl do the slugs leave a residue trail.
Looks like caterpillar eating it up
Thank you everyone!!
I bought captain jacks
But I think the person who said water droplets might have been correct.
The girls are all separate in their own one gallon cloth bags. They are 9 weeks old this week. I am planning on moving them into their final 10 gallon bags in another week or two but I wanted to make sure they were healthy before doing so. I’m never sure exactly when to repot. I’ll attach pics of them if someone could give me advice on how much longer they have in these baby pots
too that would be awesome.
Since I put up this post there have been no new holes in the leaves but I sprayed them all down with the Dead Bug just to be safe.
I have checked these girls over and have never seen any evidence of slugs at all. My first thought was caterpillars or moths coming at night. But I can see absolutely no evidence of any type of pests and since posting the original question there has been no more damage at all to any of the other leaves. I did spray them with diluted dead bug just to be safe though.
I appreciate your thorough reply and will definitely keep this all in mind moving forward with this grow.
Thank you.
Welcome to ILGM @Growgirl2210 . Looks good over there. My outdoor ones have the same issues. I just refer to them as the holy plants.
Holy plants
that’s funny!
Not always… if there is dew on the plant, they may not leave a trail… also, Sometimes the slugs don’t but snails do. ![]()
Moths don’t eat the plant… only the caterpillar. Caterpillars gnaw on the edges while slugs/snails make holes in the center of the leaves. They come out at night.
I’ve got some small holes in random fan leaves and discovered they are from the little baby micro green grasshopper.
Whenever your roots start to peek out the bottom of the pots, thats when its time to transplant. The good thing with the fabric pots is that you can bury the whole pot and the roots will grow through the fabic, therefore you dont disturb any roots during transplant
