I have followed the directions to a T. I have the 7.0 and 4.0 solutions and when I tried to calibrate last night, I cannot figure out why if my pen is measuring 7.4 in 7.0 solution, how to get it to recalibrate to the 7.0? And since I cannot get past this first step, I cannot do a 2 point calibration.
I even watched this vid and did it exactly like she did. Maybe my unit is messed up. Gonna buy new 4.0 and 7.0 solutions and try again.
I had this issue a few years back and changed to fresh batteries and took a soft toothbrush and cleaned the probe and I was able to get a 7.1 on the first cal
I will do this first. Thanks Brother! I didn’t think batteries. Mine has only been used a few times since I bought it and switched to the AN lineup of the pH perfect which states not to pH your feeding solution but still like to check the numbers.
I also had one that was stored dry for several months during my move and I let it soak in the storage solution for a good week, cleaned it up and it calibrated. I have 2 of the Apera 20s, I try to alternate the usage when I can remember but definitely cleaning and keeping the bulb wet has helped with the accuracy
Any particular reason for the 4.0PH to store? The pen I got wanted us to keep them in 6.0-7.0PH solution as it is more neutral, less acidic. Just curious to know. Thanks.
The manual says if using daily or weekly, you do not need to store it in any soluton. Rinse off after use and put the cap on. If not using for a month or more they say to fill the cap to the fill line with either the KCI or the 4.0 solution.
It also says that only certain Apera meters need to be stored with a solution and the ph20 and TDS20 do not have the probe they are referring to.
Wait…You read the BOOK/MANUAL??? What’s wrong with you??? We are men in here (except for the women) and we are supposed to be stubborn and not need to read the manual because our manly genetics let us know everything naturally…or, is that just me? lol At least that’s what my wife thinks of me. I feel some cave man grunting coming on. /S
lol, those are definitely very manly things to do. You can keep your man card and I’ll even upgrade it with a gold star because of the brisket and elk combo. I do love me some good brisket. Honest question, is there an elk brisket cut that you can get when butchering? That sounds pretty bad-ass honestly.
Moose brisket … now I am hungry . Hundreds of miles to hunt deer , wild boar and goats are closer . We have nothing as exotic as Elk or Bison . And Kangaroo tastes like shit . Peace .
I rinse my pens in distilled water before, after and in-between every test. Probably not necessary but once in awhile I do have to clean the probe. Algae will sometimes grow in the cap and on the probe. 4.0ph stops this from happening.
I will be buying a new pH pen. After changing the batteries, I was still unable to calibrate. It is my pen. When the reading is stable and you see the happy face, you are supposed to click cal to complete and it will reset to 7.0. Mine is now at 8.5 and wont change. Has to be a faulty pen. Apera has not called me back yet to see if they will replace or if I just need to buy another.
I will let you know how Cust serv is with apera and what the final outcome is.
