Hello all! New to growing and new to the forum

Curious if anyone can point me to a simplified thread or book on getting water correct for a soil grow. FF and potforpot soil. Being first grow im trying to go simple and easy to get my feet wet, no pun intended. Thanks in advance it gets overwhelming when its all new and foreign.

Welcome to the forum.

Watering is fairly easy for a soil grow. Soak the soil, let the soil dry out, water again. Repeat.

Looking more at ppm and ph levels for different phases. May be looking to deep into it all but looks like i need to adjust my ppm. Thats where i dont want to screw up. Im sitting at under 500…so do i had nutes to raise this number correctly?
Thank you

This :rofl::rofl:

But the pH and ppm are pretty easy to grasp. In soil, you want you pH between 6.3 and 6.8. All grow. Little fluctuations are fine (even recommended). There are many charts online that show what is available and at what levels.

Nitrogen is the vegetative (main) nutrient. It keeps leaves green. If overdone, a bit too green. Dark waxy leaves or burnt tips are a sign that its too much. Leaves yellowing randomly and completely are a sign of deficiency.

PH lockouts occur when the pH is out of range and the needed nutes are readily available to the plant even though they maybe in the soil.

Ppm is much simplier. Its a general readout of the total dissolved solids (tds) in your soil. Now the tricky part is guessing what its composed of. Say your using tap water (@100 ppms) and mixing in 600 ppms of nutrients. Your final solution will be 700 ppms. Now you pour that into the soil slowly and catch the runoff. You see ppms of 800 (just throwing numbers here). That means she is eating everything ur serving. Her soil was as low as 100 ppms before you added the rest. In this case, u may want to up the next feed amount to compensate for how she’s eating.

Its not THAT simple. There is last runoff numbers compared to this one (how much she ate exactly). Then there are stages as u mentioned above. In veg, i aim for under 1000 ppms. Once my soil gets there, I start light feeds. Once she’s steadily dropping even with the feeds, I up it some. In bloom, anywhere from 1500-2000 is a good place to aim in soil.

Do u know what nutrient lineup your using?

How old are the plants?

Everything registering?

Your correct. If you start at 500 and your nute schedule is calling for a 1000 this feeding you can only give an additional 500 due to what’s in your water. You could invest in an r/o filter and start at basically 0 but then you have to know you can’t ph the plain water anymore because it’s neutral.

You’ll need to add CalMag back in also.

Appreciate it, i was looking into doing RO but everywhere you go someone has an opinion that makes you doubt your plan. Just afraid to use my tap because water company loves flushing lines and not sure how chlorine ect would effect their health.
Thank you for your time!

That helps a lot, thank you!
Went with FF dorty dozen and the 3 pack. Know i dont need it all but didnt want to get in a bind…rather have it and not need it than not have it need it mindset. Running FF everything in 2 3 gallon. Also ordered 2 potforpot soil set ups. Figured id run both and see what works best for me. Only have a 3x3 tent with vivosun2000. ILGM Critical mass. Going to try a sog style i reckon. Havent planted yet, want to have my ducks in a row and waiting on light to arive still.

Appreciate your time!

Will do, appreciate the welcoming!

@Nubie419plus1 If you use tap collect it uncovered and let it sit out for 24/48 hrs to dechlorinate. Evaporation, no top.

They can handle this without needing scheduked flushes? I really dont know.

If growing with salt based nutes, regular flushes are recommended whethwr ur feeding at 400 or 1400.

With organic based stuff, its pretty easy to see sky high numbers.

Thanks @PurpNGold74. I’ve been using FF nutes my whole run and thats been my concern. I only flushed one time early on in veg when I realized the ph was way high. Like 8.8. Since then Ive been runoff at 1000 to 1400. Have not been following there schedule mainly because I wanted to avoid needing to flush. Pain in the butt the first time around. I havent seen any nute burn yet but do you think I should be still doing flushes?

If 1400 is getting it done, dont deviate. Im sure could be more then enough.

And id flush with each recommendation… the only difference being if you extended veg, no extra flushing unless they ask for it. But between transitions and before harvest no doubt

@Nubie419plus1 I’ve been using these for the last few months with no problems. If they finish as well as they’ve been doing so far, I’ll just continue to use this. Way faster and easier than using bottle, jugged, or running a R.O…
