Heat dome fears!

I’m in the Hudson Valley, NY. Growing outdoors in pots with n my back deck.

We’re forecast for mid to high 90s for next 3 days. Just topped yesterday. How worried should I be about heat stress and what can I do to mitigate? I’ve been thinking about setting up a couple oscillating fans.

I’m expecting the same heat this week!

I’m not sure if a fan will help. Blowing more hot air may actually increase transpiration.

Moving to shade/partial shade during mid day will help avoid the worst of the heat stress.

Shading the pots themselves can help too. That wait the pots and soil won’t heat up too much and cook the roots. Mich will help retain moisture in the pot and to stay a bit more cool…

A little extra water on the hot days helps, as long as you don’t get into overwatering.

I make sure to water plants in pots and fabric bags, really well in the morning on days over 90 degrees.

This year I’ve added ceramic marbles into my grow bags. Allegedly the ceramic marbles will retain moisture for the roots to use during really hot days. Time will tell if this was a good choice, lol. Everything is an experiment in the garden.

You should be fine. We’ve been sunny and low 90’s for a couple weeks.you can get some old white tee’s and wrap the pots. The actual plants have survived in heat for millenia. The roots will cook if the sun beams on them too long.

Actually thought about wrapping the pots in heavy aluminum foil. Next year will be painting them white
