Glad to be back after a bit! Got two girls in flower at the moment i think its its 2nd week in flower, Just wondering what would be a good thing to do to help promote dense and big bud structures. I currently running BAS 3.0 Water till begging of 2nd week of flower then put Gia Green Power bloom in Noticed clawing and tips turning brown so figured it was time to add nutes. But just looking for recommendations on what to do. Ak47 , and sour diesel i believe( I got 2 bags of seeds mixed up) running 2 hlg 650R at about 30% power, 45DLI around 47k lux, 750-850 PPFD.
First three are one plant then next three and another.
I understand the light distance and power are big for dense buds. 18-20” above canopy and I have two grower choice 680s lights. In veg stage I’m 50 to 75% light power in flower I’m 100%.
Is that their bagged soil or their 3.0 nutrient mix you add to a bagged soil?
That can be a couple things but probably not saying it needs more
Nutrients
Could be but clawing down can be soil not getting on the dryer side before watering again so could be too wet.
Brown tips normally are saying nutrient burn they are peaking with food.
I’m really not seeing any glaring issues and they look pretty darn good.
Awesome lights!
FYI one of those lights will flower up to four plants and or a 4x4 area so you could just use one unless you need the extra heat or they are new toys and you wanna play haha.
You are on point with the PPFD numbers.
Is that at the tops?
If you’re talking about the top leaves curling up and not down that is the leaves adjusting their angles to compensate for the light intensity.
The lights your running will do just that
Of course nutrients and watering will complete the circle.
So depending on if it’s their 3.0 bagged soil or their nutrient mix 3.0 added to say fox farms you may not need additional nutrients.
How close are your lights? I would probably raise my lights and turn them up. I haven’t looked at a PAR map for those in awhile.
So you are running two plants in a 5x10 with 650 on each? That seems crazy! Are they photos or autos?
autos and I had alot in there at one point in time but i had to move my grow location to a different spot and just got it set up figured i would do 2 as a trial run.
Ok one last question sorry for picking apart your mind but what’s your thoughts on lighting for plants think 24 is better then 18 or is there a medium you found that’s better or in your experience is it more dependent on strain of plant?
When they are seedlings I usually run 24/0 just for the added heat etc but as they get bigger go to 18/6 because everything needs some down time to rest and rejuvenate and cannabis is no different.
They do a lot of cool things after lights off…in the dark.
My current grow I’m trying something different so I just transitioned them to flower but instead of just immediately going to 12/12 (photo plants) I shortened the day by 40 minutes (20 in morning and 20 in evening) over the 6 days and am now running 14/10. I’ve done this 14/10 several times in the past with good results as I use therabulb far red lights that come on morning and evening and that helps them go to sleep quicker and wake up quicker as I understand things I read about it about 5 years ago.
The veg plants are currently stretching up and should be seeing flowering in another week or so.
Autos can be done any which way as far as day/night but again everything needs some down time.
Oh and one more question am I really supposed to be watering once a day 5% to 10% ? The person I got the soil from said it needs like a gallon of water a day and to me seems super off. I’m talking in reference to the 3.0 build a soil @Skydiver
How big are the pots?
It’s a soil and not coco coir correct.
Soil needs a wet dry cycle.
I’m running 15 gallon pots currently and it’s really about 12-13 gallons soil and when I water when they are on the dry side I’ll use about 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of water and the frequency of having to water depends on how big they are and how fast they are growing which is related to how much water they are using.
Again a wet dry cycle. Currently I’m watering them about every 3 days or so but was less frequent when they were smaller.
I do spray the top soil daily to keep it lightly moistened to help keep the microherd healthy.
Not sure why they would have told you to water that much daily as that normally is when using coco coir and not soil.
At some point they may require more frequent watering but it’s just a matter of me lifting the pots to tell when they are needing water.
Another thing that can make more frequent watering is if there isn’t much humidity in the air they will drink more.
Hope this helps.
When in doubt call build a soil directly and ask them they are great with helping.
