So it’s been about 2 weeks since I put these buds into jars and cure them. I tried one out and the taste and smell are perfect, but I noticed it isn’t as potent from what I’m used to. Is there something I did wrong when growing or drying/curing to make it less potent?
Potency varies from genetic, to how well the grow environment was, quality of dry, and cure.
To many variables to say night jsut be the genetic differences.
I believe the most common cause of loss of potency is harvesting too early. But as @Nicky said, there are a lot of variables.
It also may depend on your prior source. The resources commercial growers and dispensaries can apply, and the crazy THC levels offered, are hard to match by home growers.
This is true of the commercial growers know what their doing, which many I’ve seen simply don’t lol.
Running clones form a pheno they have hunter and having a quality environment that is controlled well, having controlled drying and curing processes on a Commerical level is something we can’t compete with.
But just grow more and get some kief from your trim bin, bubble hash some stuff, smoke that. Or get a source turbo and blow your brain out with 80% thc… Until your tolerance builds up.
That’s the thing, you’ll always chase a dragon if you want. Either take long breaks to reset like 3 months off consuming or stick to a style and don’t chase the dragon just enjoy the experience.
As someone with a significant other who vapes 87% pure thc distilled vape carts at about 0.5g per day… There will reach a point where your smoking just to smoke because your addicted.
It doesn’t matter… The brain builds tolerance it needs breaks for the receptors to reduce. Otherwise each time you get high your brain produces more receptors and more of the drug is needed to fill those receptors until eventually you smoke the best stuff possible and your high for a very short period of time. So you go back for more and more and more and more.
Very well said. Nicotine was that way for me. I would wear nicotine patches and still smoke 2 packs a day. Talk about nuts. Last week was my one year anniversary of not smoking cigarettes. Still addicted to nicotine, but it is only a few pieces of gum a day. I can live (longer) with that.
My wife would easily smoke 6 or 7 Js a day. Often more. She recently quit for two months (your reset) and now she is at one or two a day. I don’t think what I am growing now is that much better, or significantly stronger, than before.
That’s good to hear @beardless
Congrats on that! I gave up meth 20 years ago way easier then trying to stop cigars. I’m down to 1 a day and a vape stick trying to quite. Last time I stopped smoking cigs for 4 months, then mom died. Well back to cigs I went. That was almost 15yrs ago🙃
Looking at your buds maybe you took them a bit too early. The long hairs sticking out is kinda a sign of that, if you look at my buds from a recent harvest, see how the hairs have mostly retracted into the buds. Also genetics, not every seed will grow a winner.
Cigarettes are a bitch to quit. That is for sure. I lost count of how many cessation programs I sat through, even hypnosis. The only times I quit for more than I day was when I was hospitalized. I would be good for 3 - 4 days.
Finally my doctor suggested trying a very small dose of Buproprian XL. It was like night and day. No more driving panic stricken to the smoke shop. No cigs, no problem, this nicotine gum is delicious. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but it did for me.
Any crazy thoughts or action on the meds he suggested?
Yes they are I started when I was 13 (am 74) I quit about 6 years ago after I had vascular surgery on my right leg (54 staples). I tried everything under the sun to quit. My daughter threw out my new carton of smokes got me a vape pen with nicotine in the juice I kept lowering the % of nicotine and was able to give them up for good. Now I dry vape my weed LOL.
I feel for anyone quitting nicotine. Hardest thing I ever did twice. Quit 12 years then started again a couple years 3-4 packs a day took Chantix to quit been 15 years now will always have the craving but passes quickly. I can say to get away from nicotine completely is best. I’m cheering ya on.
I did a few different things that seemed to hurt the potency. Harvested too early. Was rough on the plants destroying a lot of trichromes and on others drying too fast.
Important part is you learned from your mistakes👍
