Hello, I need some help with the drying process when you don’t have a temp controlled dark room.
I live in the northeast. Can’t dry in house because of kids. I have a detached garage but not temp controlled. Does anybody have any tips or tricks in helping with the drying process for people in my situation. I’m sure I’m not the first person to have these issues. Last year I dried in garage and buds still smell like hay. Don’t know why.
What is your humidity like ?
Hay smell is just chlorophyll that has not degraded yet. Takes time. And if the weed dries too fast it tends to linger. Do not need darkness, just out of direct sunlight or away from strong artificial lights. A normally lit living room is fine. I dry in my grow room a few feet away from the tent. And I dont zip my tent up.
Thanks Norman. I’m harvesting my autos in a few weeks. Use a drying net hanging in my garage. That smell is still there from my harvest in September. I haven’t even used any. They are in jars now and still smell. Does it mean they needed more time to dry or I kept them drying for too long ?it’s not too humid here yet. Not sure about humidity levels and what they will be in two weeks but today it’s at 55%
Do you have a small humidity meter you can drop into the jars?
If you can keep it around 60% in the jars and burp the jars routinely that hay smell will go away. But it needs oxygen to oxidize the chlorophyll. So air exchange in the jars will help.
Some people use a brown paper bag to slow drying. After a few days put them in a brown bag and let them finish drying. It slows the process. 55% is not too bad as long as drying is stopped before the buds get that low.
So if I Continue to burp the jars smell will go away or it is too late because I waited so long. I was good at burping them for a while but the smell wasn’t getting better and I got annoyed and gave up. Bud is still sitting in jars
Keep burping. In fact leave them open for 10 or 15 minutes each time.
Great. I’ll try that. Thanks !!
You can try grove bag’s work very well no burping
