I have two LSD strains currently flowering outdoors. They started to really shoot out pistils around 08/01, so I think I am just beginning my 7th week flower. A few hairs are just starting to turn color. I am trying to figure out my grow cycle to start my flush. One plant I plan to harvest after all trichomes have turned cloudy with just the start of some turning amber. The other I plan to let go just a bit longer. I think they have at least perhaps 3 more weeks to go, but not certain.
How do I know when I’m about 10-14 days away from harvest to start flushing? I don’t want to start too early. Also, do the pistils just gradually turn color, with a few more turning each day? Or do they reach a point in which within a matter of days they have mostly changed? Not sure how quick that process takes place. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Takes a while. And the plant will usually have a few new ones all the time.
As far as flushing goes, if those large grow bags are setting on the ground the roots have probably grown through and into the earth below. So flushing may be a moot point.
No harm trying though. Once all the pistils are mostly brown just give plain water.
Looking at your pictures in another thread I am guessing the plant is rooted in the ground as it looks very well fed.
That could be within the genetics of the strain. The majority will act the same, but there will be some phenotypes within any given strain that will kind of do their own thing
Bags are on a make shift deck of sorts. I’m growing on a really steep slope, so had to make a platform to grow on to keep them level. My plan is to just water only the final week or so… I guess that is flushing. But they are in 60 gallon bags, so I’m not going to flush 3x their volume as some seem to suggest.
The end flush is debatable. Some say its a must, others say it does not matter. Just water only will suffice for 10 to 14 days. I say the nutes at that point will not make or break anything especially for just 10 days. So i save nutes haha. If outside just wait for your hairs to recede or all turn and cloudy trichomes. Then water only. The harvest window is bigger then you think. The little it degrades in the 3 week window will be offset by weight. Keep it simple
Thanks. I have patience, so I do hope to let them all go to maturity. It’s the weather that has me nervous at this point. As soon as things dry out, along comes the next rains or storms. Had a good storm yesterday evening that knocked down a branch. I have most supported as well as possible, but have discovered a couple buds with bud rot on my single blue dream. So I’m hoping things will finish up here in the next couple weeks. We shall see.
Don’t confuse with flushing done because of ph or nutrient issues the may occur during the grow with the reduction / elimination of nutrients some do before harvest. One is to correct something to allow the plant to finish as best it can. The other is in preparation for harvesting.
Ok, I was still under the impression that you wanted a good bit of runoff. I can barely get my bags to that point using ph’d water. But I had to use large bags because I knew that I would need to leave for a week a couple days during the summer and all they would get is rain water. One week it never rained, they were very wilted but sprang back with a good watering. Doubtful they would have made it in a 20g bag or less. But they take a bunch of water… and nutrients.
