The wife just said we’re putting up the tree the day after Thanksgiving.
We bought a new tree 7.5ft tree!
Donated our old lit tree and some decorations.
Going to look at ornaments possibly this weekend.
I still have my ornaments from when I was a kid… Plus old glass ornaments that a babysitter gave to my late uncle and father. They’ve got to be 75 years old.
Beautiful
! Nice move donating the old one. You’re such a thoughtful guy. ![]()
I can’t wait to see the new ornaments and those classics. I’m glad to see you getting into the holiday spirit. ![]()

Beautiful tree! We did the same thing last year. Was actually looking at ornaments today when I was out shopping. Decided I’d hold off a little longer before purchasing. Didn’t feel right buying them before thanksgiving ![]()
So do I haha also got a whole box full of old ornaments that were handed down, some from the early 1900s that were my great grandmother’s. A few she even brought over from Sweden when she came here to the US. I’m too scared to even look at them out of fear that they would break.
Nice @Growdoc, @MadamCalamity we still do the real tree, since moving into FIL’s place it usaly a 6.5-7 foot Blue Spruce, fella we know cuts his and sticks up by the road 15 bucks and pick one, love the smell hate the clean up, but its all hardwood floor so not so bad. I made a tree stand holds 2.5 gallons of water so thats cut down on care also. And Heirloom ornaments from 5 generations also.
We used to do a real tree until several years ago. Miss it kinda, don’t miss cleaning up needles. Maybe in a few years we’ll go back to a real one. Nothing like going to the tree farm and cutting down your own tree. It’s just a whole experience.

Unfortunately, I do not remember having a real tree… Maybe when I was very young in the 70s…but the parents jumped on the plastic tree bandwagon back then.
I have a bunch of antique ornaments as well… Grandmas from Slovenia and Grandpas from Bohemia… Unfortunately… My sister gifted them to us a few years ago… She had stolen them from my uncles house after he died from brain cancer. Kinda took the awesomeness out of having them.
The others, I had mentioned previously, were given to me by them to keep them safe.
Nifty fact… Grandfathers family’s been here since before the Civil War… Most had plantations in West Virginia and Virginia… Some further south… Great great grandmother on his side… Was owner of a huge coal company there. Grandma literally lived in a tiny farm hut in Slovenia before emigrating to the USA.
My uncle put me in my place when I was 16…I didn’t understand why I should care about slaves and history… We never owned slaves… Then… He told me our grandpas family down south owned slaves… Kinda brought it home a bit. My grandpa had to rescue his brother from a family down there… They had been treating him like a slave and had him sleeping with the animals in the barn… He was kicked in the head when he was a kid… Was a great guy.
We didn’t have many real trees either. Only a few when I was really young. It was mostly my allergies fault. Those things made me sneeze like crazy. ![]()
The antique ornaments of your grandparents sound awesome. I’m glad you have them now. I can understand how getting some through the passing of your uncle took away the joy. I’m sorry to hear that. If he’s the same one who told you about the family history then he seems like he was a pretty smart and perceptive man for back when you were 16. Major props to grandpa for rescuing his brother from abusive family. The disabled were often treated horribly in the past and frequently in the present.
Yay!
The fence installation starts today!
Materials delivered… Guys working.
Shed was finally moved yesterday.
Congrats on that, all over now but their crying now (neighbors) been dealing with the same on new property we acquired until surveyors come 15 th of next month, then they will bitch about the No hunting No trespassing signs there DH’s take that!!!
@Bentstick Weird thing is…
Back story: yesterday I had to remove a chicken wire fence that holds one neighbors dogs in… So i let him know… He offered to help. Was very cool of him… Was more work than I thought.
The guy finally moved the shed while we were out working… I thanked him and offered to buy him some beer… Asked what his favorite beer or liquor was… He said Coors Light… I said you sure… Not a bottle of whiskey or something… He said no beers good.
I told him I am going to run to get it now… Be right back… Now it’s a 3 minute drive the the grocery store… Was in and out quickly.
I stopped at the neighbors that helped me with the chicken wire… Dropped a couple cases of Coors for him for the help and being cool with all the fence bs.
Went nextdoor to the other guy with the shed…
He was Fing gone… Sent me a text… " had to run… Be back later".
Still haven’t heard from him. Got two cases of Coors Light sitting in my truck. ![]()
I am a whisky and mixed drink guy. Beer makes me feel like shit.
Well ya did the right thing, weather he thinks so or not you are doing great keeping peace within your power wish my neighbor would of been decent from the get go, but they laid the ground work from day one with major attitude, last I spoke to them was last yr when I stated “well ok then, I grow also and was going going to invite you over for a smoke and beer but this impass has kind nixed that, please enjoy your day”
Congrats on getting the new fence started. I looks great! That’s a shame about the one neighbor but at least one of the two seemed cool and appreciative. I thought that was most generous and considerate of you. ![]()
