Growing outside in the desert

Does anyone here grow outside somewhere dry and hot like Phoenix or Vegas? I was wondering if I can put them outside during the day? If so how much water should I give them? How often? Any advise would be appreciated

@KikiGee I believe has some outdoor grows in the southwest (or maybe just greenhouse?) and might have some insight.

I just threw a plant outside today, but if I’m honest I’m just expecting it to keel from extreme heat and no humidity.

If they’re in a pot you can tell by the weight. Fabric bags are preferred mainly for that reason. Also, you can’t really overwater in them. But they dry out quick as hell. I have a 4ft GSC in a 5gal fabric pot that I have to water every other day, at least, between feedings. I have another in a 7gal plastic pot that I only have to water maybe twice between feedings. It’s not as dry in my region, but just as hot. If you go in the ground, then I’m not sure. @oldmarine knows about outside.

I imagine you’d have to water every day in parts of AZ. Early morning or late in the evening. The topsoil can get so hot as to turn the water to steam and cook your roots…

In northern Nevada desert, was 100 degree plus for a month and my daughter grew these, but started in cooler temperatures. High temperatures are challenging, but can be done.

@Quarinteen
Are you planning autoflowering, or photoperiod?
If you got questions tag me by putting @Dennis62 I’ll try to help. :smile:

I put a seedling out for 2 hours and it died lol

It’s a lot more humid up there though.

Unfortunately it’s not just the heat. It’s the heat and 5% humidity that’s nothing me. Actually it’s just the lack of humidity. I have found that even in a grow tent with all conditions perfect except humidity the plants won’t do well at all. I learned this the hard way.

Yes you can definitely have problems with lack of humidity and high heat, as a matter of fact my current grow was stressed during early grow cycle, and plants grew small thin leafs and branches, I learned the hard way also lol. Still wondering do you have auto seeds or photoperiod seeds? There are things you can do that will help keep them alive even in that heat. We are more humid, runs around 30% these autos my daughter grew are pretty small, but heat stress caused them to flower early, but she wanted get them in before fall an it was in the hundreds. Anyway man I’ll help if I can, holler at me anytime. Here’s pics
