Growing in Florida

Hello I am fairly new to indoor growing. I have 6 great grows but still have not figured out the taste and smell. I was wondering how many of us in Florida have this issue. when i do my winter grows they seem to cone the closest to what u can buy. my terpenes ,trichomes look like sugar has been poured over the flowers but still no taste and faint smell. Ive grown super skunk, wedding cake, blue dream and bubble gum. All from ILGM’s crew. The past grow was super skunk and it was a winter grow. it was very strong smelling but im in day 13 of drying in a completely dark room that has stayed under 70degrees and 60% humidity. I am about to cure in quart size mason jars. Can anyone help me out. what are the best strains to grow in Florida’s 100 degree heat but still have some taste and smell? how can i get the smell and taste to come out in drying and curing stage . what else can i do? seems like i have read and tried everything that i can get my hands on. big beautiful buds with sugary look on them, but no taste and not much smell

How long are you curing? How long do you still have weed after harvest?

Taste and smell is always down to proper drying and curing practices, followed closely by good, basic growing practices. Your 60% RH and slightly below 70 temps.

Probably a bit overdried. It takes me 7 to 10 days at 60% RH and 70F.

Humidity in the environment is probably a bigger issue than heat. 100+ temps are a problem, but RH is going to be your big problem. White widow is a great strain that is mold resistant.

Focus on a good slow dry 64 to 68 degrees 40 to 50 Humidity for 7 to 10 days . Follow with a Jar up for at least 30 day cure. Aroma comes roaring back after cure. Just my thoughts good luck. Also check seedbanks info for strains best suited for your climate.

Great advice thank you but i tried ww first and not much taste in that strain to start with so was told to go for a hybrid with more indica in it. my humidity is always very high in Florida. i have a room for each stage now with several acs and dehumidifiers. fans u name it to to try to controll it all.

I was reading if u dry for 3 weeks or untill the moisture meter reads 10% for smokable is just right then atleast a 2 month cure at 58% humidity and 65 degrees so that is what i am trying now.

when i try to look up sub. or med. at ilgm. nothing with a fruity taste. i am trying to get that smoke that taste like candy and u just dont want to put it down even when ur in the couch. lol.
i am willing to buy what i need and have some room but like i said this is grow number 6 and no luck. if my girls have a sugary coating full of terpenes then i have done my job as far as growing. right?
so it must b in my dry or cure methods?
Im just about to give up on this thing i love with so much passion. I just cant untill i have tried it all.
Was hoping there some tricks out there that noone is sharing with us new guys without begging. so this is me begging for some help. lol

10% seems WAYYYY to low. Doesnt your weed get brittle? Normally by day 7-8. The buds have a crispy outside and still moist in the inside, so ill trim and jar around then. And the moisture wicks back outwards…

WW usually has a nice terpene profile. Citrusy. If youre hunting that candy ‘purpley’ flavor? Try a Purple Punch or Purple Haze. Fire OG is good for funk and has some cookieish phenos. Chem is always a good one for pungency.

Thank you for the advice been wanting to try purple punch anyway.
I got ahold if some grape ape a few yrs back and it had everything that i love in smoking just cant find it. purple punch from ilgm is closest ive come (i hope)
and yes, thats what i thought about the 10% percent but was reading an article last week and thats what they said to try in a humid environment. usually i do like u said little crispy outside and moist inside . so i bought a moisture meter and was trying something different. i am at 12-20% on meter( depending on where u stick the prongs)and at day 13 the temps here in Florida are starting to rise was at 89 yesterday so ive fired up the ac in dry and cure room so i dont hit that 80 degree spot where terpenes start to melt and was hoping to get in a jar tonight.
seems like i am running out of things to try. tired of throwing big beutiful buds away because they taste like dirt(earthy) or grass or just no taste at all.
is there any tricks to the curing process?

Patience. The slower and longer it can go, the better. Honestly that bud looks good

thanx its ilgm super skunk photo and it smelled terrific.
when you start you’re cure, what is youre magic humidity and temp. that you like to use?

Tbch? It goes in the jar. Ive never been the most scientific grower. Its a feel thing

Once the stems snap to pop and semi snap, i trim and jar. All im looking for is that crispy outer layer. Then I jar it. Thats actually a few days too soon, so I just unjar everything on this open… fence like rack. Very aerated from the bottom so airflow is solid. Then rejar a day or two later. Whole process takes 10-11 days. After that I just let it cure and smoke while it does. Longest ive gotten to is almost 2 months. But its usually the bottom of the barrel by that long. Regardless of my plant count

@PurpNGold74 I practice similar methods… :+1:

@easy I was stationed in NW Florida at one point ,and I know that humidity is no joke. Don’t give up. This is the sweet spot of learning something new. The epiphany, the “a ha!” will come soon.
Also, I grew and pollinated my Grape Ape clone I had a few years back. Indeed ,it’s a good smoke!

Or maybe you’re having corona, or another issue with your olfactory system?
