Does anyone grow auto flowers outdoor .i have tried . never turn out right ?
These are some of the auto flowers that went crazy but not with what i would call buds ?? These were not feminised autos i did have a few males that i tossed dont know why they look like this any ideas ?
I’ve grown ILGM Autos outdoors in 5g pots. I’ve tried two ways- starting in pint containers, then transferring to 5g at 4 leaves, and starting seeds directly in 5g pots.
I haven’t seen a lot of difference in the two methods.
One thing I’ll say is plan to temper your expectations, you’re NOT going to see the yields stated in the documentation. Plants will grow to about 3 feet, and yields will be between 1-3oz of bud. And it’ll be 12-14 weeks before they mature.
I fed with Jacks and added Flower Fuel once buds showed up.
Oh, I’m on the West Coast, had two crops early May-Aug, Jul-Oct.
these autos started indoors been in the greenhouse now outside with intermittent shade because it’s hot. they’re almost finished in 5 gallon pots of Fox Farm Happy Frog mixed with hydrocorn and worm castings. And I have my own composting worms so I always water with tea
GG 4
Bruce Banner she stands at 55 in
The things are a crapshoot if ya ask me. I fool with a few each year outside but the only ones I ever had any luck with where ILGM White Widow and Big Devil Auto.
I’ll never start them in early spring again. They need 4 weeks of hot sunny weather to get any size.
I started a purple punch auto Mar 25 (sprout in jar of water , 2 days for tail). Now about ready to harvest. Yield will be decent @ 1 plus oz of trimmed finished bud. I use 20 gal. nursery pots and a pacific nw organic potting mix , auto water timer and organic fertilizer (miracle grow). My previous grow was Northern Lights of which I ended up with an over abundance of finished product (4 plants). In comparison, the PP auto is about the size of a good branch of the NL. This plant’s base is about 2" diameter. Oregon law allows us up to 4 plants at a time but for me , unless I stick to autos , that just makes for too much trimming. Am pleased with the auto result and have sprouted another to finish up the grow season. Have used ILGM seeds for 3 years now with tremendous success and quality of finished product.

In my opinion, your wasting dirt. 10 gallon is plenty for an auto they only have a 4 week veg time.
Hey I’m a week late but welcome to The Forum.
This is only my second year with autos. For decades it’s always been photos outside and in soil.
So last year’s autos we’re in 3 gallon fabric pots and root bound.
Sticking with the fabric pots because I started early and they’re easy to move. But this year I moved to 5-gal. The plant size is significantly heavier. Yet the roots wanted more room.
The one’s currently stretching I put in my 25 gallon mineral tubs undersome trees. We’ll see.
We’re allowed 6 in the vegetative stage and six in the flower stage. I’ve been planting two a month since February. I thought this one and a gorilla glue would have been finished by now. The gg4 looks like another week. Next year I’ll still stagger again but differently. My thought is I should be able to get 18 plants in a year outside legally.
Here’s the Bruce Banner that just finished at 17 weeks.
55” autoflower??? Outdoor grow???
At times. The first couple weeks were indoors then they went out to the greenhouse through the day and inside at night.
Then they were in the greenhouse 24/7 until it was too hot in there. Then they went to living underneath the trees.
I don’t recall ever moving plants more. Lol
babying yes! moving no!
Anyway our unusual early Heat caused Miss Banner here to develop nanners into nugs in the last two weeks. Fortunately they were spotted when they first started emerging so no worries with younger plants.
But yeah constantly moved and never sitting in the way. Can only imagine what perfect conditions would produce.
She’s been harvested and GG4 looks to have a couple more days. She’s been locked step with Miss Banner. but has had no issues.
Miss Bruce Banner trimmed wet weight was a very sticky 26.3 Oz.
Enough to make a lima bean sized hash ball.
She’s drying now, we’ll see what cured weight is.
Here she is before Harvest and then trimmed. Top Cola on plate 1.9 Oz
Oops sorry about posting two of the same pictures.
I’ll go with the excuse I’m old and stupidly stoned. Lol.
Okay THAT makes more sense! Hybrid grow, I can see it potentially getting that tall… but I’ve yet to have an outdoor AF top 40”, and most are <36”.
I’ve tried 3g to 7g pots on AFs, seems in 3g, the roots don’t get as much room to spread, so there’s more vertical growth. But with larger pots, unless you have REALLY WARM WEATHER, the roots are spreading as the plant grows, and less energy goes to vertical growth.
Because they grow for a shorter time before they start to flower… I get decent volume (1-2oz), but not like many of the AFs I see here.
Last year my Autos were in 3 gallon and root bound. These we’re in 5 gallon and this one was also root bound.
But the yield is twice of what was in the 3 gallon.
I do have two skunk autos growing in 25 gal tubs.
From that I’ll know just how far Auto Roots can spread. And consider what you said also.
If they were photos I would do like I always done and they’d be in the ground.lol
Here’s a
twin Cola Girl Scout cookie in 3 gallon
Did she twin top on her own, or did you top her? I had one do this on its own before… been reluctant to top AFs, because they flower so quickly. Here’s my GSCExtreme, she’s only 8wks old, in a 5g plastic. 27” tall, buds look pretty heavy.
She’s looking nice.
I topped her.
And that’s a variable between the three and five gal pots. I still need to see how a auto is affected topping one in a 5 gal.
The Bruce Banner is one of the tallest strains so…
Just
Harvested these blue cheese autos started indoors put out early may .ilgm blue cheese smells strong , its dry now got about 4 or 5 oz of fuzzy looking buds looks like a lot of leaves but thier all covered with sugary tryclomes not to strong of smoke . just right , buzz tastes good i will grow the 10 seeds i have left over this winter as i have my outdoir going strong
That’s a nice looking plant… I’ve considered that strain but haven’t made the leap.
4-5oz out of how many AFs?
What was your grow period (weeks?
TIA
Plants look nice and healthy.
You have a nice Garden setup.
I used light inside to for a white to start out is your soil good?
