As a “ps”
I wanted to say if you see any white spots on the leaves, that is diamataceous earth that I had put on the soil and “dusted” the leaves with. I have not seen any bugs since that one I saw a week or two ago. Which lead to the dia. earth treatment. Peace…
The curl is from excessive nitrogen. Probably could feed lightly next time.
Covertgrower-
Thank you for your advice. I will back that off. When I was researching on growing natural I read over and over how they will get problems with too little nitrogen, and calcium. So I have been trying to avoid that. She shouldn’t need as much nitrogen any way in flower. I sprinkled a little bone meal on today (0-10-0) to give her some phosphorus. Thank you so much for your input sir. Have a great day! Peace…
Hey-
Went to the doctor today and they looked at three spots on me. A couple had been looked at before. So I had 2 biopsies, and one was frozen. These are skin cancers, and I get a lot of them even though I am not out in the sun that often. Anyway, I will hear on the biopsy results in about a week. Have a great crop out there gang!! Peace…
Hello grower world!! I hope everybody is watching their garden grow big and healthy! I did my morning check and all, and decided to do a slurry test to check pH and tds readings. Still trying to figure out what my soil and plant needs to get bigger. My pH was 6.21 and my tds was 596ppm. The pH is good, and I am guessing that the 596 ppm is ok, but could be higher. I know now that I will be using a tried and true recipe for soil on the next grow. No more adding things that may make it unbalanced. I am going in the right direction, so I will stay the course. Betty is still green and healthy. I noticed something on one of the buds that wasn’t quite right. One of the lower buds with good light- the pistils are greenish and have been for a few days. I am thinking its likely the spike in nitrogen. I will continue to watch, and if it doesn’t get better, I will post a pic and ask for opinions. For now I will keep doing what I am doing. I will have a post in a day or two with pictures and a report on how she’s doing. We will be at 7 weeks above ground this Monday (Dec. 7th). Looks like it will be after New Year’s Day for harvest. Not sure about the date, but if the last plant was any clue it will be around Jan 11th (12 weeks). Peace…
I keep this handy for reference @patchman. Good luck on the biopsies
Davyg-
Looks like I am really low. How do I get the ppms up? Organically. Any ideas? I am trying to get past too much nitrogen, right now. @Hoppiefrog you got any ideas, or do you even worry about ppms?
@Budbrother- do you monitor you tds/ppms? I checked my pH and tds today just to see if anything might explain her lack of growth. To rewind I bought some blueberry auto seeds from ILGM. The first one that was grown in a pot for pot soil, and was at least a foot and a half bigger than my current plant with a better light, tent, soil, etc. My ppms were 596, and my pH was 6.21. My VPD’S have been good the whole time. She’s been healthy, with the exception of my nitrogen getting a little too high recently. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Peace…
@patchman I am facing the same issue and have watered fish, blood and bone meal in. I’m also going to use well rotted manure mixed with compost as a top dress as well. I keep liquid seaweed there as a standby should I need it. I have a few ideas for my next grow to try and head this off
Thank you sir for your comments. I have decided I am going to use a different recipe next time on my soil. I am not going to stray from the recipe at all. I will list the “ingredients” and where I got it from when I do my next grow. I can list it sooner if anyone wants me to. She is green and healthy so I am thankful for that, being my first attempt. I was going to tell you Davy that the site I like doesn’t really recommend blood meal. I believe the blood meal I watered in a few days back caused my spike in nitrogen. Which is what it is supposed to do. Be a fast nitrogen booster. I just put too much, even though it was a sprinkle around the pot. If you go to build a soil’s website you can read on their recipes and why they use what they use. And its not like they are anti blood meal, they just think there are amendments that do more things for the soil than blood meal. Interesting reading if you are trying to grow naturally (organic). Peace…
Thanks for that @patchman I will have a look. I need a nitrogen hit and have done the same as you. Sprinkle a handfull and work it in using my fingers. I will have a look at the build a soil website. It’s half 4 in the morning here, been up most of the night so a bit of research then some shuteye for me
No I do t pay attn to ppm with organics anymore, it’s all bout the microbes. If the microbes are super healthy the ppm will actually drop due to the microbes holding most of the available nutrients(only to release them to the plant as required) ppm meters are not the best to measure organics as they are designed to measure conductivity of salts In said solution. really you want to measure total dissolved solids, this will give a much more accurate reading and represent what is actually in the rhizosphere .even then not super important to measure just read your plants ,if things are going light or splotchie diagnose the issue and remember for next run when you had to make the correction and do it ahead of time to pre ent the same issue at said time. Hope this helps
It does man. That’s actually how I got my nitrogen too high. I have read that there can be times where the nitrogen gets too low, or the cal mag. I was trying to head the nitrogen off and it was too much. I am not going to stray from the recipe next time, as my additions were not bad, but I should have stuck to it. The balance is off. Thats what I am thinking. Another stellar crop Mr. Frog. You know what to do, and you DO what you know how to do. I have just begun my journey, but I know I am on the right path. Peace…
Ok, time for a question. I have read so much but I dont recall ever seeing this. How do you know if you have a healthy bunch of microbes? I want all them happy microscopic organisms to be fed and healthy. But how do you know if that is the case? If your plant develops problems, what would they be?
Nope cause there’s no point Last time I can remember doing it was a couple years ago with reading of 5k. I bet the properties of basalt had fun with the meter conductivity.
If you have a microscope you can take a sample from rhizosphere and put drop of water on slide then have a look at numbers.
Do you feed them sugars and provide carbon sources to reproduce? Keep air flow over the rhizosphere down by using a mulch layer? Keep the rhizosphere moist at all times? Then their happy
Since they provide all the food to your plants by making the organics available, and working with the mycorrhiza to direct the nourishment where needed; you’d see an overall decline in health and vitality. With several hundred billion in the pot even if you kill 90% they will still do their job plus make more laborers.
I forgot to mention that the ph of the pots would rise above 7.2, if not enough microbes to self adjust.
Good morning to all!
I checked in on Betty this morning. There were no changes. It was however, time to water. A tip for whoever: when you are checking with a meter, be sure to check in more than one place. I have seen some differences at times. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Its been a week or so since I had an elevated nitrogen level, but those skinny leaves around that bud are still drooping. I will check in a few hours to see if watering had any effect. Plants are looking good out there everybody- one eye man see!!
@OlyBoy98503- Hey Oly! I hope you are doing well. I try to keep up with everybody but I can’t seem to pull that off. I got a long way to go on learning how to grow good medicine organically. I hope all of yours are doing great. Hey, I was on build a soil’s website the other day. They had an ad saying they use Oly boy nutrient (I can’t remember what it was, I think a fish fertilizer). Have a good one!!
I appreciate your admiration from afar @BeeKeeper2! Peace…
lol! I’m sure that sounds better than “mud, muck, and sh!t that I dig up and dry out from my local lake”. That works too I guess. ha haha!
Oly-
You are smart enough to know that secret ingredients (like pond slime or muck) can give YOUR BUDS a custom taste that no one can reproduce, unless you sell your pond to the corporate cannabis world, ha. Be good man, peace!!!
