The heat sink materials also play a huge roll in the heat of the lights. Like hlg uses a thicker aluminum than ive seen on spider farmer or mars and even the kind and enfun lights. Enfun is a knockoff hlg 260 setup but they run alot hotter not becauee chips because the heat sinks are thinner and dont dissipate the heat across the whole heat sink like hlg and other nane vrand ones do. This is why heat sinks run so much for a decent one and that adds to the cost of a superior light. Plus hlg has the best customer service ever. I will say from a pal running medic grow their lights looned to do great work. But he bought 2 new from medic grow and both quit working within a month or 2 of receiving them. They gave him a beat up light in place of the first one it worked so he was atleast content but no where near happy. He got a second to run the otger side of his twnt same issue a month or 2 later it malfunctioned. They then sent him some off brand light same light mind u diff name brand tho same light got that part diff name. The light they sent in replace if second bad nedic light was a 350 dollar light medic charges 8 for theirs so he now has 1400 in lights that he could have got same lights both for half that vost just a diff nane. So he tries to get refunded and they give him the run around and now ignore him. Dont do medic grow is all i will say. Right @scryptic. Sorry to bring this up again but if itll save someone else a bad burn why not eeh.
It gives off absolutely zero heat. The transformer sits outside hanging on a wall. When the lights on 100% temperature goes up literally 0.4°

My recommendations were based on the request of even coverage across the board. KS5000 appears to be a decent light but still has drop off in the corners and edges pushing its core coverage closer to a 3x3. Less than 600 when at a 12” hanging height from the average canopy. (Scrog or trained) this number will drastically change as certain plants will be taller than others leaving some “in the dark” so to speak when you raise to accommodate all. Bar lights have awesome coverage, at the sacrifice of distance. Perfect for even canopy. I still suggest a higher wattage fixture if you are looking for more intense uniform lighting. Specially without scrogging, or a balanced canopy. However, this is where specifics come into play. If you are looking for complete coverage and solid buds across the board you don’t want to drop lower that 750-800 around the perimeter. 600 can still give you decent results, but it will be noticeably different than bud 6-8” in from the wall.
Lost girl isn’t wrong in that it’s one of the top performers in its class. However, it’s not going to perform the way you initially requested.
Very clear and concise, thank you. I see that with the PPFD chart they both have listed, the edges would suffer with the cheaper light and this is against my original statement.
I believe this puts me with two options, almost double the cost to have “ room to grow” which could push a 5x5, or a more budget friendly option that will work for 75% of the grow space.
I don’t intend on going up in size with the tent but I would love the overhead to have additional PPFD if needed. But as a more budget friendly option, it would suffice I believe.
As-is it looks like $369 vs $799. I’m not quite sure the outside 6-8” would be worth the price difference to me personally.
Right now with what I have only the very center getting 1100 PPFD with it dropping off drastically inches away in either direction. I might have a 1x1 area receiving over 1000 ppfd with the edges getting about 300-ish leaving the outer 2-3 feet at around 500-600. If this cheaper light fixes that except for the outer edges of the tent, I think I would be fine with that compared to the majority of the tent. That’s where I wasn’t entirely sure if the entire canopy can handle 1000 PPFD or only the center. With the results of the grows, It seems the entire canopy can handle 1000PPFD, which pushes me toward these bar lights for more even light spread. That and the heat, 480W of these current lights I have cook the inside without keeping the lung room very cold with very uneven light spread.
I’m holding off until Black Friday to see if any deals pop up, I emailed vipar and they said they would have sales.
Right now the better solution is $800 while the acceptable solution is $379. The best solution being $1,000ish. Cost considered. Both take care of the heat problem, ( or not make it worse while increasing the ppfd) and creates an even spread where an even canopy would work best.
I’ll wait and follow up around black friday to see which one I pick up.

Absolutely. I try to only shop sales. Even if it’s a preemptive strike for something I want to do down the line. In the long run it’s easy to save thousands!
