Grow journal----Blue Dream auto & Big Bud auto. Round two

Lmfao all good. I can relate 100% to everything you just said I’m just out of likes for an hour :joy:

I believe @blackthumbbetty and @raustin have some decent experience with making edibles. Maybe they can help you with any questions pertaining to accurate measurements, dosages, etc. Pretty sure I’ve seen some delicious creations made recently by one of them

I too have fallen into the black hole grow addiction :joy: I absolutely love all the knowledge I’ve been gaining since I started growing and joined this forum. I was already a huge cannabis advocate and smoked daily. But learning how the plant grows, the control you have over such minor details, and the endless spew of knowledge in ever other category is just amazing. Keep us posted on the edibles endeavor. I’ll be asking you for tips hopefully in August

I have a couple others I saved to a word file I was going to ask advise from as well. I will add those 2 to my list. My main question right now is about using trim. And how much I can use. I have a gallon zip lock bag full in the fridge. I am not sure it is all usable. but not knowing exactly what to keep. I kept most that was not the big fan leaves. More to learn. By august I should have gotten to try a few different things. Peanut butter cookies will be the first though. I jumped from the frying pan into the fire on this one. I found so many different strains that sounded good that I just started buying seeds. I have a lot of photos I wish I had not gotten now. Only because I really like the autos. They may not yield as much as the photos, but I am good with that. I figure after I go through these last 3 plants. I am probably going to give a couple photos a shot. I will have more than enough in jars by then to keep my friends happy. I would like to try a plant in soil as well. I hear about others getting bugs and stuff from soil they buy and it has me on the fence about that. Not an issue i really have to deal with coco from as far as I have read. I could be wrong there though.
I will be sure to tag you once I start on the butter and cookies. I will probably just run it into this thread though since I still have the AK and B.B. going here.

Thanks, Would you be able to tell me if it matters what trim I use and how much per buds. I was hoping that if I was to have a few leaves in that really didn’t have much on the trichome wise. it would not hurt the rest. Maybe just not contribute is all. I am going to do this in a crock pot too. I have read if you leave it in there longer. It would make the butter stronger. Do you know if this is true.
Thanks, I am looking forward to learning some else new here.

Yeah I can understand where your coming from.

I definitely enjoy my auto currently, photos are more complicated but it clearly seems if you get a good feminized photo and tend to it properly then you can easily get massive yields. Then you can start toying with cloning, breeding, and yeah a whole different world :joy:. The Autos are by far the most convenient for obvious reasons, glad I went with an auto as my beginner.

If I use trim, I treat it as 1/4 strength of bud. So, if I was going with 1 oz of bud, an equivalent amount of trim would be 4oz. That’s just how I do it. Very sugary leaves are treated as 1/2 strength.

The average dosage formula goes like this:

First, let’s just assume your weed has at minimum 10%THC (this is the standard percentage used). That means there’s about 100mg THC per gram of bud. This formula is a good basic guideline.

For me, I like to use ½-1gram bud per serving, or a bit more. :grinning:

Thanks. I would like the first to be strong since it is for my friend. I am not worried about how much bud I use since I basically got into growing to help him out. His wife said he was spending to much on edibles. But if I was to give them to him. She has no problems with it. So that is how I got started here. With that, should I start with more bud? And I will just toss in a bunch of trim. More so just to get rid of it quick. And about how many cookies should I make per batch? 100 mg pretty much does nothing for him. I have seen him gobble up about 4 or 500 mg. I would like these strong. But still spread out over a bunch of cookies so he can eat a few at a time. He knows not to eat a bunch till he sees how a little will effect him.

I just noticed the gram per serving. That will help to get me started for his.

I have used this info to great effect. The trim in the chart refers to the really trichome covered sugar leaves/popcorn buds, not fan leaves/stems/etc. I figure buds are somewhere between trim & kief.

Thanks, I didn’t realize I needed to decarb the trim as well… When I go to use it. Do I need to cut it all up too?

I’d do one quick pulse in a coffee grinder or cuisinart. You don’t want a powder, but you want it nicely chopped up.

Have you seen @highcountrygal’s kief making method? To make your budder/ticture/etc stronger w/o having to use more solution to cover more herb, you can make kief & use that to make budder/tinctures/etc. That way it’ll be more concentrated in a smaller amount of carrier liquid.

I haven’t. Looks like I have a lot more to learn than I though. I have a feeling I will be reading a lot tonight. I will have to look and see what I have here to chop it up with. Hopefully she drops by and I can pick her brain too

I see @blackthumbbetty has you covered, but if you need help just tag me.

Does the keif have to be decarbed as well? I can’t recall but I thought @highcountrygal put her trim in the freezer before making her keif but can’t remembered if that was decarbed first or if at all.

Do you mean when you make kief? You would only decarb when making edibles, and yes I would decarb the Kief.

Here ya go buddy.

Decarb it AFTER it’s been turned into kief, at least that’s what I do.:grinning: The chart above shows just how much of a difference decarbing makes.

Thanks every one. I thought I was going to be ready to do this saturday. I think I better do more reading. A little more involved than I expected. Just more for me to learn  I am sure I will have a few questions come friday. My nephew graduates tomorrow. The years go way to fast. Thanks for the tips and links. I am looking forward to this next adventure.

@blackthumbbetty, @raustin, If I was to de carb some of the buds tomorrow. Do I have to use it right away. Or do I have a couple days wiggle room. I was thinking of doing some of the buds tomorrow. It may be a little bit before I can get the kief screen. Also I don’t have a coffee grinder so can I use a knife? I know it will take a lot more time to do.
Thanks
