It takes about two weeks after you flip to 12/12. You should start to see pistils.

Looks to be a mangled set of leaves coming out of a recently topped area

That growth site might’ve been bumped in its infancy, maybe grew weird from the damage? I wouldn’t worry about it too much. There’s a lot of healthy plant there.
