What size grow bags are folks using? I have problem with ground hogs and squirrels eating and digging around cannabis plants and with grow bags and covering with netting I can hopefully win.
Also what soil do folks use for best results that don’t break the bank.
I don’t think a grow bag would offer much protection from digging critters. Squirrels chew right through wood facia to get into attics.
Perhaps chicken wire or some commercial rodent repellent.
I sometimes use cayenne pepper and sprinkle it heavy around areas I don’t want them.
Thanks for the response. When I start garden plants in spring I cover the beds with fruit tree netting that works well for squirrels digging. I have watched squirrels take a hard look ,sniff around and move on……seems to work.
Rabbit proof fencing installed to protect transplants $300.
No more rabbits in transplant area.
No flying squirrels

Brings back fun memories …. Back to the question……what size grow bags for outside grow, new guy here ,never used bags plus favorite soil combos for filling.….thanks
Hey there @DWK What type of plants?..Photos or autos?.. It also depends on how big you wanna grow them…The medium is different for many…I started with Fox Farms Ocean forrest but found it a little hot…I’m using FF Happy frog and Mother Earth coco 70/30…some don’t agree with mixing the two soil and coco but its worked out pretty good so far… I may do 100% ME coco next year well see…There are many different types I’m into my 5th year outdoors in fab pots …I may even try some of the other mediums others on here have used…Hope that helps.
Al-Green ,thanks for the response. I’m growing photos only. Hoping others will chime in on preferred soil mixes that have worked well. I’ll keep your recommendation in mind and give it a go. Thanks
Late to the party, I am.
Bags, for outdoor was the question.
3-gal or 5-gal work nicely, especially if transporting the plant as in re-locating for further growing (10-gal pushes my limit, since hernia surgery).
The best have handles and
those top holes are useful.
Soils, Good question.
I am using FFOF (rather heavy), lightened with FFHF, Humbolt Gold, Pro-MixHP, and whatever is available.
Finding a grow shop that is supportive (beyond just taking your money) is important.
They may share valuable tidbits, not posted on forum. More importantly, they could have reasonable prices and items in stock.
I am still learning outside grow, myself.
