I’m looking into purchasing a greenhouse kit and would like opinions. First question is after you’ve had your greenhouse for a few years, would you rather it was wider or would you prefer more length. I’m torn between 8x8, 10x6.5, and 6x12. Also what type of foundation did you choose and are you happy with it. Thanks for any replies.
I’ll say first off, I do not have a greenhouse.
I did extensive research to consider purchasing one, and I’ve come to conclusion for myself that a 12’ wide by minimum of 20’ish would work best for me. Larger is better, unless yard space is limited.
I’m not sure what your climate is, but farther north, I would install hydronic heated concrete pad (hot water) for a longer growing season, and be able to control temperature uniformly.
Cha-ching
Curious as to what you took into consideration to come up with those dimensions? Plant size and plant count? I am basically going to be using it primarily as a place for my potted plants, mainly autos and a couple regs that I play around with and practice different training techniques. A place safe from the elements and also a place that can be locked. I’m only looking to extend my season by a few weeks so I won’t be using after October.
12x16, house height, house style, on concrete. As big as code allowed without permit.
Next will be permitted and electrified, adding this and solar.
5-year plan.
Plant size, plant count, and figured in garden vegetables. I considered working room, as well as what other plants I could squeeze in there. I have more people in my family than yourself probably, and I planned accordingly for space.
I would be doing the work, that saves a ton of money.
Definitely a good size, and what permit?? Lol. I thought you only needed one of those if someone noticed something was built?
Our city building code No permit required for under 200sqft.
Larger or electrical wiring require permit, if noticed or selling.
Build it yourself, you can get the panels at Lowe’s. In the southern US you want the tinted panels. I would want mine 12 ft high for big plants. I don’t have any floor but earth and for big plants plant straight into the earth. Next thing is ventilation your gonna need large fans and exhaust fans. I want mine 16 ft wide.
I built my green house almost 2 years ago out of 1 inch PVC pipe, 2x4 as the frame and greenhouse plastic. Its about 12x6 by about 7ft tall. I can fit 6 plants in fabric totes and still have room to walk and do whatever tieing up or netting work needed. I dug holes to fit the totes in the ground to add about a foot of growing space with those tall plants.
Less than 200sqft, no permit required, hence 12x16=192sqft.
Cant grow in it, no electric and mowers smell.
Need a twin, new house roof and solar.
Big dreams, now I am awake.
