So I’m curious to see if anyone knows if green gelato can get alot of amber trichomes or majority milky? This strain is supposed to be 55 percent indica 45 percent sativa. When’s the best time to harvest this strain?

Questions, do you have a scope or something that you can see the trichomes with? Generally that’s the best way to determine if the plant is ripe or not.
Also are your pistils turning orange or are they still white? Ultimately seeing photos will help.

There day 60 flower right now I’m about to check all tops again and chop some tops off in a few that are done but I’ll get you some trichome pics of green gelato soon as I’m done. Green gelato top buds do have alot of red hairs but not the lower bud sites that aren’t getting any light due to massive buds. They do look orange/red in person but photo its hard to focus on it since I got too many plants camera is trying to focus on. @r3ys3r
My gelato I grew got mostly milky, and white trichomes, very little amber, and I allowed it to flower longer than most would have.

About how long did it take to get a sufficient amount of amber trichomes? See mines the same as what your describing from your plant. Just less clear trichomes. I’ve read on other forums and blogs they say it’s supposed to be less amber more milky. I mean it doesn’t really matter I guess if it is mostly milky trichomes since I got all other plants have majority amber trichomes. Just don’t kno whether I should pull her tonight or just wait longer. I’ll have some pics up in a little bit @Covertgrower

You can post the pics, you can also check my journal and you can compare. No trichome pics, but, I took decent pictures for information.
Middle pic, with the colored leaves and fox tailing. I cloned that one several times, so if you scroll up more, you’ll see how it flowers each time.

She looks great! Being still kind of a noob to the grow game I might have side with covert on this one. Might just take a while to finish up. Green Gelato looks super fire.

Also amber is when the THC is degrading and braking down. Milky will give you the most THC. The theory is if you get 10-20% amber then you shouldn’t have too many clear underdeveloped trichs.

Thanks! I read about the strain an it’s supposed to be very potent I’m just gonna push her so she can get more red hairs. Before I planted it I thought the whole time it was sativa dominate but was 100 percent wrong lol @r3ys3r

But does trichomes tend to change slower on strains that 45percent sativa an 55 percent indica dominate? @fast-grow
I’m kind of on the same boat. I’m growing an Indica dominant strain that is supposed to be a high thc %. Some of those will take 9-11 weeks of flowering. As far as my experience growing. My last plant took much longer than the expected seed to harvest time listed on the package. My two current ladies are 8-10 week flowers and I honestly think they’ll go longer.

@r3ys3r1 the 2nd pic looks exactly what my green gelato looks like but a little more red hairs. I have been told always wait 2 weeks after what breeder says on their time to flower. so I’m guessing I just need to let her ride out till week 12 flower. Those are some nice buds though

The second pick is my mandarin cookies v3. She smells like mandarins no joke. The more developed buds are A1 Yola from Exotic Genetix. That strain smells soooooo good but very little people have grown it so finding info is a challenge. I tend to chase down these super random strains for some reason. I should have both chopped by end of month.

Are you planning on cloning some of that strain? I can’t tell what aroma I smell when I open up my tent. Anywhere from hint of chocolate, fruity, skunk and few other aromas that hit me in the face all at once lol was that strain grow kinda easy?
Not this time around. My wife wants me to stop until we move into a house. Our current living situation has been interesting because of covid. We haven’t had neighbors in over 6 months so at some point I’ll have neighbors snd even with filters stuff stinks. I definitely have a slew of genetics sitting in my closet. If weed were to suddenly disappear tomorrow I would have the makeup to kickstart lol

The strain was pretty easy to grow. Incredibly strong from the very beginning. I was very carefree with this grow so outside of giving them great light, consistent nutes(I’m using biothrive from general organics) and I gave them co2. They’ve been easy. Mandarin cookies was a slow starter but has picked up the pace.
I ended up chopping mine when about 3 weeks past this point. The first time.

Generally sativas will take longer than indicas based on where their parent strains origins are from. Genetics from closer to the equator will take longer that those from more northern climates.
There maybe some cases that break the rules and I have read here that some strains just don’t seem to want to change and seem to take lots longer.
Best answer I can give is some is genetics, some is growing environment, and some is just stubborn plants…
