Hello friends! As I said, I’m staying true to my word. I took a break from growing for about a month to decompress and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I’ll tell you, those fruits are super sweet too.
My beans are on the way. I will post again when they are in hand and germinating. I’m going to stick to the fox farms soil products and most likely their nutrients as well. Reasoning being,; I’m looking to upgrade ventilation system and lighting this grow cycle. I’ll be adding molasses to this cycle as well and focusing on one stain. So I’d like to at least have a strong base of what I know works as I modify the plant’s surroundings.
Third one is having trouble getting out of shell. It’s started but I’m going to check again when I wake and if it hasn’t progressed enough I’m going to terminate and germinate another. I’d like to focus on just three this time around.
As far as packaging and cosmetics go, I couldn’t be happier with the quality and care the company puts into their product. Seems like even the D ring hangers even seem to be a step up in quality compared to other name brands… I was shocked with the carbon filter, both size and weight.
It’s a work in progress. Had to regerm a third seed. Not sure if I’m sold on the 90 degree bend, may put it straight vert. This isn’t a journal for this gear, but I’ll just say this, I definitely am happy with the quality of this company.
I’m using the old in-line for a fresh air in. Not set up yet. I’ll be doing that and setting up the five gallons fab pots.
So I already made a rookie mistake or two. I believe I caught it quite quickly though.
I over watered the seedlings in my eagerness. So I’m going to let the soil dry out and Stick with just spritzing the inside cups and let the heat make moisture. Don’t know why I even watered to begin with.
Secondly, I made drastic environmental changes too quickly. The tent was originally fairly low humidity, “50s,” and temp was alright at high “60s”. I jumped that up to 10% to each within an hour or so and removed the glasses to breathe in the humidity.
It was another week before it finally wilted
The soil was moistened and then I squeezed out as much water as I could, then the seed was planted after soaking it 24 hours.
Here it is after 3 weeks…
So while the seedlings grow, I prepped 3 five gallon fabric pots with roughly 2/3 ocean forest and perlite. Take solo cup, make imprint where seedling soil will go, and then I lightly tamped down the soil around. Each pot was short soil by an inch from where I’d like it to be so I added the remaining happy frog that I previously used for my seedlings on top to fill up to desired level.
My other challenge now is making a proper lung room/ humidor.
It looks terrible but it’ll have to do until I get another tent in.
Essentially I’ve got my shelf encased in cardboard then plastic wrapping. The top shelf has the a/c unit and the cold air humidifier. It’s closed of except for a section to allow the vapors and cold air to drop down. Directly below is a circular fan aiming into the duct going to grow tent. My grove bags are on the lower right side to stay at 62 degrees and trying to keep humidity around close to the same.
The materials didn’t cost anything. I can make it far better, if i spent some money on it. But the cardboard, plastic wrapping, and tape were free. Once I get the bugs and design flaws worked out, I’ll use better materials.
So I know it looks sketchy and getto as heck, but it’s in its design phase. Directly below the a/c unit is my cure area and to the left is my duct with a circular fan pulling the naturally dropping cold moist air into the grow tent. The cord is my third temp probe.
My a/c has balanced itself and not always running, my moisture levels are starting to rebound back up since I built it. Cure area is staying at 62% and humidity is on or about the same.
It’s a stainless shelf wrapped in large square cardboard sheets, heavy duty plastic sheeting and a lot of duct tape, it works. Lol
The two pics of the middle one are a day apart. The shell had some troubles completely unseating. Right now I’m just balancing humidity and temp with the cure/lung room. I have a second humidifier on the way. Once it gets here, I’ll be moving that homemade contraption elsewhere.
I think lil miss in the middle is starting to come through from helmet head. The right one is going strong and the far left one is right behind. It’s like the 3 bears.
Anyways, I’m watering the outer perimeter of where my solo cups full of happy frog sit. That way it teases the roots outward when they are ready and if they aren’t I think it far enough away that it’ll just add to my humidity level. Could be wrong, we’ll see.
Oh, I’m also only adding water at this time. No nutes, cal/mag, or molasses yet.
Nothing too notable yet, just watering around the outter edge of happy frog to promote root spread. Keeping humidity in the low 60s. Temp is hovering around 76 on average.
