Problems Already Stemming Up - Veg Week 2
2023-10-30T04:00:00Z2023-11-05T04:00:00Z

Pun totally attended here - not even a week in and already seeing one of my plants dealing with some adversity out the gate!

Week 2 pretty much was a continuation of what we have already been doing. Light water feeds, along with mosquito bits mixed in to fight fungus gnats. Sticky pads are also catching these little pests and hopefully gets rid of them for good!

Still have not added any nutrients yet while feeding the mosquito bits. Will likely pick that up starting in week 3 of the grow

All the plants are progressing pretty well and showing newer nodes of leaves beginning to form on them. Plant 3 however is showing some signs of defects in the stem, which appears to be slightly stunting its growth. Placed the humidity dome back on it to ensure gnats were not hitting it and causing more harm. Will closely monitor the plant’s progress

Was also a bit concerned with the amount of soil in the pots. Mixed more up and added soil evenly to all pots, as well as weight balanced them

Grow Environment Specs:

  • Plant Height: 1-2 inches
  • Day Temps: 78°F
  • Night Temp: 69°F
  • Humidity: 60-65% (Plant 3 in humidity dome still around 75%)
  • Watering Volume: 3 cups per plant
  • Watering pH: 7.8
  • Watering PPM: 65
  • Lamp Height: 16 inches

Additional notes outlined below:

  • Soil in pots appears to be a bit low. Want soil about 1-2 inches from top, and currently from the base of soil to the top shows over 3 inches
  • Water used tested at 7.0 pH. Treated with pH Up until desired pH was met at 7.7 pH
  • Took around 18 cups of soil, and then saturated it with about 3.6 cups of pH adjusted water
  • Dumped soil evenly back into the pots. Filled with soil/water until each pot was showing close to 15.5 lbs
  • Temps showing between 77-79 F but the RH is low around 54-55%
  • Took 4 half gallon containers and placed them around the grow room. Then added 1/3 gallon of water w/H₂O₂
  • After 2-3 hours, RH within grow room is now showing around 61-62%. Plants appear to be responding better with the RH over 60%
  • Plant 3 is showing an unusual weak stem but is definitely growing better. Will work to straighten out the stem to ensure it grows properly

Start of week 2 (Oct 30th)

Domes were removed since the walls were being breached

End of week 2 (Nov 4th)

Yeah…I have 11 journals over there…still able to access my current one. It has been going downhill for awhile. I Tried to lobby to fix it…below is a link to the thread with their response.

I personally really liked the additional features you could add such as types of nutes, temps, humidity, etc. Really is a shame that they are discontinuing the site

Going Chop-Suey For Support - Veg Week 3
2023-11-06T05:00:00Z2023-11-12T05:00:00Z

Well I think if the growmie followers here haven't had enough of my corny title headers yet..... then so be it. But there is usually a reason why I'll emphasize them in my post intros!

Week 3 I suppose marks the dawn of the true vegetative period. The growth that took place between the start and end of this week was pretty crazy. Pretty sure the leaves on plant 2 had extended beyond the diameter of the pot by this point, which leads me to believe that everything is just going along smoothly for the most part

Plant 3 had the humidity dome removed, but the stem was still not strong enough to support the top heavy part of the plant. I probably committed some sort of Chinese taboo exercise by criss-crosing the chop sticks at first to support the stem, only to later see that I could use one and bind the plant against it using a loose twist tie to help support it.

This week I started mixing water with a pre-mixed nutrient feed, which in turn helped these plants start blowing up in growth. Each week I’ll list the nutes I’m using, and desired PPMs I’m trying to meet.

Even better… plant 3 strengthened up to the point where the chopstick was no longer required to support the plant. Although small, it is slowly growing and trying to catch up with the other two plants which is great to see. Gonna go on a limb that the liquid Silica definitely helped in that regard

Also began my low stress training (LST) on plants 1 and 2 by softly bending the branches down. I’ll start using something to pin them down more once the stems get bigger

Grow Environment Specs:

  • Plant Height: 7 inches
  • Day Temps: 78°F
  • Night Temp: 69°F
  • Humidity: 60-65%
  • Watering Volume: 3 cups per plant
  • Watering pH: 7.8
  • Watering PPM (With nutes added): 215
  • Lamp Height: 11 inches

Nutrient Feed:
`NOTE - Nutes are prepped in a 1 gallon container filled with 3/4 gallons of water

  • TPS Silica: 22 ml
  • GH FloraMicro: 50 ml
  • GH FloraGrow: 5 ml
  • GH FloraBloom: 20 ml
  • H₂O₂ (For sterilization): 2 ml
  • Total PPM: 4000

Additional notes outlined below:

  • Water used tested at 7.2 pH. Treated with pH Up until desired pH was met at 7.7 pH
  • Mixed in veg juice and a pinch of epsom salt. Added liquid until the PPM was about 150 higher than starting PPM measured in water
  • Slowly watered top of soil and avoided directly watering over them. Misted remaining dry areas on top of soil
  • Final weights on all pots after watering were around 15.5 lbs. Will monitor plants and water accordingly
  • Recalibrated all pH meters using 250 ml of distilled water and buffer solutions. Stored each solution in mason jars for future usage
  • Stem on plant 3 has much more stability now. Removed the chopsticks to start allowing plant to fully support itself
  • Performed light stress training (LST) on plants 1 and 2 to help make branches/leaves more parallel with soil and expose auxiliary branches
  • Plants 1 and 2 have now reached the 5th node of leaves. Decided to top both plants. Plant 3 is still developing its 4th node

Start of week 3 (Nov 14)

Needed to use chopsticks to support the weak stem on plant 3

Began LST on plants 1 & 2

End of week 3 (Nov 12th)

Yeah I’m sure people are going to read that and lose their minds. But it’s just a jug of it that I have downstairs ready to add to my feed water. When I actually mix it in to my water the PPM count is only around like 200ish at least to start. It’ll gradually go up through the grow along with mixing in another nutrient juice mix

Done like so -

Veg juice on the right has the high PPM count. I add small amounts to the water jug on the left until the PPM count is where I want it

This is highly unlikely. As a seed vendor, that would be shooting yourself in the foot.

Sorry for the confusion @Budbrother, but I’m not referring to either the main ILGM site or this forum…

I was referring to this one which hosted the journals = https://ilgm-growjournals.com/

Makes more sense

Who exactly told you this and when? It’s news to me. There was a change in site address a little whike back but for most this didn’t require anything but logging back in.

Edit, i see now.

Hi @dbrn32,

Well if you have more clarity on the subject then I would really appreciate your feedback. I have not been able to log back in since originally setting up my account on the journal site. Can’t even send a password reset because it never hits my inbox (I’ve tried several emails to no avail)

The feedback from support was basically, “We have no idea - start one here” to be blunt. Not going to call anyone out on it… but there’s seems to be a lot of uncertainty on what’s going on with that page so I just migrated things here

I follow now, sorry for the confusion :metal:t2::green_heart:

Explosive Growth & Standing Strong - Veg Week 4
2023-11-13T05:00:00Z2023-11-19T05:00:00Z

I was pretty serious when I said last week marked the dawn of the true vegetative period, and this weeks progress just further clarified that

Week 4 carried on where we left off last week with the growth just further taking off. Rather than boast and brag to myself about it, I’ll just let the plant pictures do the talking

Also with a huge boost in growth, comes a boost in water needed. Starting this week I nearly doubled the amount of water being fed to the plants. Previous feeds stopped once the pot weight was nearly 15.b lbs. I will now be feeding until the pot weight reaches 16.5 lbs to help complement the growth of the plants. This is also going to require more frequent feeding given the latter

I performed topping on all 3 plants as they have all reached the 5th node. This should force the plant to branch out more and help create additional cola sites for later in the grow. I will monitor this accordingly and begin tying down the branches soon to help with that

The previous issues I experienced with Plant 3 seem to have completely cleared up. The stems are now growing pretty strong and sturdy to the point where the chopstick(s) were removed. I am also beginning to do some LST work on it to help expand the growth laterally and begin creating a canopy. That will be the constant goal from here on out before we flip later on

I’m also running out of space for the plants. Next week I will be moving the plants into the larger 5x3 grow space where the remainder of the grow will be performed. I will outline all the specs for that in the next post for week 5

Grow Environment Specs:

  • Plant Height: 11 inches
  • Day Temps: 78°F
  • Night Temp: 69°F
  • Humidity: 60-65%
  • Watering Volume: 6 - 6.5 cups per plant
  • Watering pH: 7.8
  • Watering PPM (With nutes added): 365
  • Lamp Height: 8 inches

Nutrient Feed:
`NOTE - Nutes are prepped in a 1 gallon container filled with 3/4 gallons of water

  • TPS Silica: 22 ml
  • GH FloraMicro: 50 ml
  • GH FloraGrow: 5 ml
  • GH FloraBloom: 20 ml
  • H₂O₂ (For sterilization): 2 ml
  • Total PPM: 4000

Additional notes outlined below:

  • Checked soil weight within pots. Previously waited 3 days to feed. As a result they all weighed roughly between 13 - 13.25 lbs (Absorbing much more water)
  • Water used tested at 7.0 pH. Treated with pH Up until desired pH was met at 7.7 pH
  • Mixed in veg juice and a pinch of epsom salt. Added liquid until the PPM was about 300 higher than starting PPM measured in water
  • Slowly watered top of soil as well as lightly over the stem. Misted remaining dry areas on top of soil
  • Final weights on all pots after watering were around 16.5 lbs. Will monitor plants and water accordingly
  • Performed light stress training (LST) on all plants to help make branches/leaves more parallel with soil and expose auxiliary branches
  • By end of week all plants required some topping on upper branches. Also did some pruning of lowest branches

Start of week 4 (Nov 13th)

Began topping the plants

Middle of week (Nov 16th)

End of week (Nov 19th)

I don’t have anything to do with the grow journals site and don’t really know anything about it, sorry. I was responding to original post thinking you were talking about here. I have read comments since and realized this isn’t forum related.
