This is my first grow and I decided to use a 4" pot (That’s the diameter, not sure if I labelled that correctly). I’m trying this to avoid transplanting too many times. I picked up some germination soil from my local garden store along with some potting mix. I went half and half on the two mixes in the pot, just wondering if this will be sufficient for the germination phase. I have a 3-gallon pot that I plan to transplant too after it switches to the vegetative state.
I’ve also heard varying opinions on whether to use lights or not. I have HPS and MH lights coming but I’ve been told they are too powerful for the little guy at the moment. I’m quite a bit over budget, are there any household lights that would offer any benefit?
If the ballast is dimmable use your mh light set on lowest setting. If not, get yourself some 6500k cfls. I use a 5600k 55w true watt for the first few weeks
Honestly for seedlings, I think CFL are best. You can get 1x 23 true watt CFL over each seedlings for a week. After that, start about 28-30 inches high then adjust from there
He means 1 cfl bulb that puts out 23 watts of power per seedling …
1 seedling = 1 bulb …
And I agree , I like to use cfls for sprouting and cloning… like these…
And you want them to be 6500 Kelvin… that’s the spectrum of the bulb…
Your mh would work at 250 watts , just make sure that it’s high enough that it wont burn your plant’s… @Myfirstplant
Thanks a lot Peachfuzz for all the help!! I’m going to try the MH this time round. It’s my first time using a light this powerful as well, do you think two feet will be enough clearance? I have lots of available room if more is better
