Started GDP Fems from ILGM the last week of April. Seed popped around 4/28 or so. Been keeping her in a cabinet until all my supplies are delivered and have a few questions before the big setup. (Photos attached)
Soil: Fox Farm Ocean Forest
Light: 18/6 (Seed photo)
Water: Tap
Nutes: ILGM Seedling - General Hydroponics (for future use, maybe)
}. Initial leaves feel a bit “crisp” at the moment (week 2). Move light up? Perhaps stop spraying with water bottle?
}. Also, if water bottle spray is ok, should it be done just before lights off? Will a fan eliminate the crispy texture of the leaves? The two largest leaves are the only crisp ones.
}. Transplant - Directly to final pot? 3gallon cloth pot or 5gallon? I see roots at the bottom of the existing seedling home. Also, she’s not growing tall which is perfectly fine. I’ve grow twice before and my girls were quite leggy, I mean really stretching. Any concerns over the height at this stage?
Was considering Mykos and General Hydroponics and Stump Tea. Once 2x2x4 tent is delivered I will be hanging a ArgoMax 65W LED with fan and humidity/temperature gauge. The setup will be inside and enclosed bathroom with window.
Now that my book is written, let me know your thoughts. Be safe out there and let’s get growin!
Thanks in Advance
Is that water sitting in the bottom pot saucer? If so make sure to discard that and not let the plant sit in this and wick it back into the medium. Also looks to be over watered. I would give it several days and transplant…after week 2. Misting the leaves is only needed during the seedling stage, that medium will feed for approximately 6 weeks with water at a PH of 6.5. What light are you using
Edit: saw the 65 watt light, that’ll get her through veg but to get a decent harvest and bud development a quality light fixture in the 135-150 watt range will be needed
Like @OGIncognito said I wouldn’t let her set in her own standing water.
I’d also start LSTing very soon and flipping your light schedule to 12/12.
Surprisingly they stretch a ton in flower and will very quickly use up that 48inches of height! By the time you take into consideration the distance from the light needed and the pots height you’ve used up half that.
I wouldn’t go to crazy with a strong light until you have room, you might not be able to get it far enough away.
Once it has big girl leaves I stop foliar spraying unless it is for a specific reason.
I’ve had GDP with a few odd leaves and ones that felt tough and almost leather like. They turned out fine.
4’ tent is a tough ask. Given size limitation I’d go with 3 gallon, top and LST or do a Quadline with LST. You will more than likely need to limit veg time.
You will definitely need a light upgrade to grow it out. HLG Patriot 150 and AC Infinity S22 or T22 will do a nice job in a 2x2.
Are you using an exhaust fan? If so, I’d mount it outside the tent. Can’t afford to lose space because of a fan.
Thanks for the responses. I follow advice like a mother. Standing H2O gone. Will upgrade light, and cancel the 2x2x4 tent. I have space but assumed the 4’ would suffice if I LST’d. Growing one fem or two autos at a time. Any suggestion on tent size? 4x2x5? 2x2x5?
Are there any suggested videos on LST? Quad line? My plan was to LST but I’ve been stuck starting too darn late with past grows. @Autos-only start LSTing very soon by using ties or bending? She’s so small. Was planning to tie - bend - and top. Just a bit afraid to damage the plant. Any advice/videos are appreciated.
I haven’t had a chance to research the cost of the recommended lights but hoping not to break the bank. The guys at my local HTG STORE must’ve saw a newbie and talked me right into a bad buy. Wanted a light source that would take me from bean to the end.
I’m not using an exhaust fan. Assumed I’d be fine since it’s in an area with a window.
@Moringa tons of informative video on the ole tube! And when I said soon I don’t mean today, wait a bit for the side branching to start.
LST is a form of training that sends growth hormones such as auxin to other parts of the plant to create wider plants with limiting overall height growth. I’ll show you some pictures.
This way you can create an even and wider canopy to get better overall even lighting.
Numbers 1, 2, 3 show where the stem (1) and the branches (2, 3) were topped. If this is all you let grow, you would have 8 main colas. However in my case I had room for 12. I circled the extra four.
This is a picture of the same plant 50 days later (in a 3x3x7’ tent)
Tent recommendation
Minimum 6’ tall, I have a 7’ tent with the exhaust fan and filter outside the tent.
I like my 3x3. I can grow 4 photoperiod plants in it if I choose to. Shorter veg & training. Recently I have grown a single plant in it.
2x4 is great too. Can grow 2 - 3 plants.
4x4 if you have space and want to grow larger plants. More lights and bigger accessory equip than the other two.
So, for growing a single plant or no more than two autos together a 2x2x72 should be fine, right? I don’t plan to grow any more than 1 or 2 in 3 gallon containers at a time due to time and traveling. Thanks so much!
@beardless Do you have a photo of the first plant prior to quadlining? It’s pretty awesome. Would love to try exactly this but I lm a bit anxious with the idea of bending. Will the limbs break…Geese Louise.
@Autos-only My home is in the middle of nothing and there are no lights. Was thinking of just leaving the window open and fan on through the night. Should still be completely dark if I have it thought out correctly. If not I’d have to use a closest that’s no where near ventilation. You’ve also done an awesome job with LST; I’ve grown in the past but have always been afraid to bend and twist. Live the concept though. Do you have any photos to share of the first LST action with these?
Thanks man! It’s nothing special I spend very little time doing anything with my grows, not that I’m lazy but sometimes less is more…
I do one bend early on and tuck big leaves out of the way, that’s all… I completely fill a 32x32 with two autos, it works for me with my busy schedule.
I will take some pictures of my girls tonight and update you. They are on day 26?? I think.
After the two lower branches are in place it’s time to set the two main stems.
Pinch the stem just above the knuckles to loosen it so it can be bent safely. Pinch and roll it between your fingers. You want to feel it give way. When ready gently push it down and secure it.
Exhausted. Will respond to folks in a few hours. Super thanks for the responses. Checked on my girl. Roots are peaking through the bottom of the pot. Leaves are concerning but I’m not even gonna start panicking unless you all push the panic button. Taking myself to bed. MIGRAINE!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms that may view this.
So, an update and a concern.
My soil appears to be super damp. I’ve only watered her once since germinating. Roots have started peaking through the bottom holes of the pot. Pot isn’t as heavy as it was two days ago. But, this is my first FF OF grow, wondering if this is normal.
She’s grown another node but the damp soil has me a bit worried. The temperature stays between 75 daytime and 64 at night - and humidity around 68.
Ok. As always, thanks a ton. My panic was just that the souls been damp for days. Long as you all are cool with it, I am too! I will definitely keep the leaves off the soil.
She’s just about 3 inches tall and growing.
A leaf broke off the main stem last night. Sure I’ll be good since everyone says they’re resilient.
Single GDP - Transplanted successfully.
Moved into an AC Infinity 3x2x6 tent
Upgraded light to VIPARSPECTRA 2023 XS1500 Pro LED
2 X Clip fans.
My thought is that she’s in Vegetative Stage Week 1.
Feeding Friday:
Fed with Stage 2 Bergmans 16oz of water
Fed with 1/8 TSP of GH FloraMicro and FloraGro and a very small amount of FloraBloom 16oz water
Daytime temps 78-83
Daytime humidity 50-53
The light seems to be super hot when it’s on full-power. Add fans or should I use the dimmer switch to turn the intensity down a bit. Or, unzip and open a few times during the day.
Last feeding was Friday - she seems to be quite dry and light to weight already (it’s Sunday).
