Fungus gnats in soil

So I found fungus gnats in rapid rootz king soil a day after transplant. One was crawling around so I put sand on top and taped the drain holes. Will this kill them? Any other advice? If they get out of control it’s headed for the garbage. Any input would be appreciated.

I’m just beginer but they will lay eggs in soil and larvae will eat the roots you can get some food grade diatomaceous earth and put it on top of the soil and you can dust your leavs with it and it will help to kill them hope this helps there are sprays too for fungus gnats just make sure it’s garden safe for vegetables good luck someone on here will help you

Untape drainholes fungus gnats come around in a grow environment that is to moist, let the medium dry up and add airflow if you dont have a breeze already

@eric2 and @Majiktoker gave you great tips… Potato slice on top soil work great for larvae, nematodes too… For the flying ones, sticky pads, paper and/or streamer works well… I went through an invasion on my last grow, and these tricks does it for me…

Hoping that’s helping you, @Noctis420,

Thanks everyone for the input. Ivề got the layer of perlite on top so it can breath and I’m going to let it dry out. then ill add de and I heard watering with peroxide mixed in the water helps kill them too.

Yes 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per gallon of water

Ive used DE since the beginning of my grow, i usually just mist it off with Phd water. You could always use a milk mixture 20% SKIM milk to 80% water in a gallon container. Ive seen moderators also say you can do a 40/60 milk to water. Then use that and spray your leaves. That would take care of all 3 of your worries the mold pest and left over DE
