First time indoor, want to know if I have put together a good setup!

First want to thank @Low for the lighting info!

After research, my indoor setup- which will be in my basement (in MN) will likely be the following:

  • Vivosun 32”x32”x63” grow tent
  • Spider Farmer SF2000 LED light
    -Spider Farmer LED controller
  • 2 Spider Farmer 4” filtration system (one for intake, one for exhaust)
-2 AcuRite Digital therm/hygrometer w/temp & humidity (one inside tent, one outside)
    -Vivosun PH/tds meter combo
    -trellis screen
    -5 gallon fabric pots
    -woozoo oscillating fan

I plan to grow 2 amnesia haze auto’s and using LST.

Do I need both intake and exhaust set ups or would a simple air purifier and fan outside the tent suffice for intake?

Thanks for all your input! So glad I found y’all!

Welcome to the forum.

Yes. The more airflow the better.

An air purifier doesn’t really offer anything for a cannabis grow. Suggest a carbon filter if you are looking to mitigate smell. An air filter won’t remove smells effectively.

Suggest more wattage if growing 2 plants.

You will struggle to contain 2 plants in a 32x32.

Appreciate the tag.

Everything seems decent, idk about the fan.

You also do not need to have a duct fan going in, just some ducting going in. The duct fan going out will suck air in on its own with no problem.

As for the sf2000 is JUST enough. However due to its rectangular shape you may have drop off. If you aren’t planning on packing the tent it should be good.

I’d consider one of the budget bar options in the same category as the sf2000.

I agree with @MidwestGuy for the plant count, however autos are unpredictable… you won’t know what you will end up with. I’d suggest PHOTO plants. They are more forgiving and you can guarantee one plant in that space nicely.

This :point_up_2:

That was another question I had - would It just be smarter to grow one w/LST as opposed to the 2 and is a 5 gallon pot good or would it benefit me to use a 7 gal if I go with one?
My air purifier question wasn’t related to smell. My tent is in the basement and I thought having an air purifier would just “freshen” the air a bit. I am in MN, so the air can get a bit “stagnant” in the winter. I have a friend with a similar basement set up and he swears that his plants have done better since he did put an air purifier in the basement. Of course, it could be a bit imaginary on his part. I want to be adequately prepared, but I also don’t want to overthink everything, so to speak.

There’s nothing to worry about so long as you have good airflow. A small fan will be less expensive and accomplish the same thing.

Likely due to other factors. I know exactly zero experienced growers who use air purifiers, though many will use a carbon filter to manage smell. AC Infinity and Phresh both make good carbon filters.

Yes, it would. Autos can be on the small side, but they can be hard to manage.

5 or 7 is fine.

Awesome. Yeah, as you probably noticed I took his claim with a gain of salt, lol.
Really appreciate the help!
I have been wondering if there is a benefit other than space when it comes to setting up my air flow either outside the tent or in the tent?

Nope. Those who place their airflow devices outside the tent do so to manage space. It otherwise doesn’t matter.

I did, but it was a point worth emphasizing.

It’s what we’re here for.

Just my opinion, but I don’t think you’d need an intake at all, it’s only like, 32 sq ft. Keep all the bottom vents open and it shouldn’t collapse the walls much. You can always buy a second one later. But definitely get an inline prefilter of some sort. If not for carbon filtering for smell, then at least for longevity of the fan, since it’ll be on more than it’s off and all the dust and lint, etc. it sucks through is hard on the motor. Oh, and a controller with a probe is a huge plus for me. Doesn’t need to be bluetooth or anything fancy, just something that will let you hold the room at a constant temp/humidity when you need it to.

Keep an eye on humidity in a basement, especially if it’s a muggy MN summer. Might need a dehumidifier in the budget somewhere.

One photo in a 7 gal. With that light. That’s definitely the way to go.

Way ahead of ya on that dehumidifier! Lol

Really glad I ran this by all of ya!

New math! A 32" x 32" tent only works out to 7.111 sq ft, not 32!

I’d be more concerned with the 63" height, that’s only 5’3". Your pot is about 10" tall, your lights will hang down maybe 4 inches from the top of tent (if you’re lucky), you need to hang your light at closest 12" from top of plant. That means the tallest your plant can grow is 37" tall. Which is still a good size plant, but just something to be aware of.

Yeah, my bad. I was thinking cu and typed sq. It’s actually a little more, just rough math. Tried to edit it, but not too familiar with the edit function on this forum yet. Air flow usually uses cubic… just a brainfart on my part.

My opinion, step up the exaughst fan to a 6 inch and just use 1 fan and you’ll have plenty of air flow.

The sf2000 is a good light but slightly under powered for a 3x3 tent but it will grow 2 nice plants and if you could add a 2nd sf2000 to the setup later on, you could stuff that tent full of nice flowers.
Id highly recommend at least a 6 foot tall tent at minimum, that extra height is really needed quite often.
As for plant count and unpredictable growth, if a auto over grows a space i treat it just like a photo.
I cut it to size :man_shrugging: lollipop, remove limbs, whatever.
A plant growing huge is a good problem to have imho

Not really any difference pulling or pushing air, but keep in mind the more ducting, filters, and bends in ducting reduce efficiency so the shorter and straighter the ducting the better airflow will be.

@MidwestGuy @Low @Bubbala @Hellraiser
So after all of your feedback, I believe I have some things figured out, but definitely want to see what you think

Still w/a 3x3 tent - Im leaning towards the Opulent Systems 3x3 (64” height) tent. It’s 4” taller than the next closest tent. My options are limited as the ceiling in the basement area I will be using is only 70”.

My light options are down to 2.
HGL has refurbs
The Refurbished HLG 300L Rspec® 250w

I’m leaning towards this option because, well, HGL. And because I feel like I can always add another HGL 100w or more later rather seemlessly.

My other option is the Marshydro TS3000
I like this because it is 450w and, like the HGL, it is a quantum board, which seems to be the most “idiot friendly” of lights and, the 450 Watts gives me the option of 2 plants later w/o a light upgrade.

Next question - I was planning to get a spider farmer 4” ventilation system (fan&carbon filter). Haven’t heard anything negative about the SF fans, but would a 6” be a better fit or is 4” adequate for my space?

Also, I am committed to growing amnesia haze auto for my first grow. Got them from a friend. Need to double check the seed bank, but I’m pretty sure they are from ILGM.

Have some questions about grow specifics (medium, powder vs liquid nutes, transplant or not, etc) but really wanted t some feedback before I order!

Thanks so much!!

Hands down the mars hydro will cover more. I’m all about coverage.

Hlg says that’ll flower a 2.5x2x5 or 3x3 I’d say 2.5x2.5

4” would work fine.

As always the cons of mars hydro is iffy customer service, and “limited warranty.” they do come through if there is a problem. But it takes about a week to get a replacement. That said the last time I had a light problem they sent me a new light and I got to keep the old one.

Not to jump on and overtake Norsk’s post, but his comment about his setup and using the * Vivosun 32”x32”x63” grow tent

That is the same size and product that I was looking to purchase for my startup supplies. Will I be unhappy with that size purchase and/or should I look at purchasing a larger one to begin with? (State regulations will be 4 plants in flowering stage and 4 plants in vegging stage per person (for just my husband and myself) and I’m ok with growing 1 -2 plants at a time, or should I be looking larger to begin with?)

Thanks!

A fellow upper midwesterner, eh? Lol

If I could have gotten a taller tent I would have, but I have an old basement which is so old ppl never considered that ppl taller than 5’3” would ever exist!!

And, as you may have noticed from reviews, etc, the zipper on Vivosun tents is just annoyingly cheap feeling.

So yeah, if you are able to, a taller tent would give you flexibility if you need it.

Happy growing! It’s sure fun!
